Cuvée du Père Houdart Brut Champagne Blend

Notes from 3 hrs open. Lovely oxidative style, but good freshness to complement. On the nose: honey, marzipan, lemon oil, a shimmer of copper. On the palate, lovely mousse, fantastic acidity, very focused on the palate, with floral honey and lemon. Very clean finish. — 4 years ago

Vieilles Vignes Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2017

Sarrazin’s Chardonnay wines are definitely the feature attraction. But this vieilles vignes Pinot Noir has lovely fruit, delicate floral aromas and excellent freshness. Very solid effort, if not terribly complex. — 5 years ago

Verzenay Grand Cru Brut Champagne Rosé Blend

Nice bang for the buck, a bunch of red fruit and the right amount of orange wine sour (don’t hate the description- it’s refreshing). Love the producer, can’t go wrong with this Grand Cru. — 3 years ago

1er Cru- La petite Chapelle Gevrey-Chambertin Pinot Noir

A lot of oak, fruit tannin, flowers, RIPE fruit. It has A LOT of everything. It works. This wine is really good, going to age for a REALLY long time. — 5 years ago

Bourgogne Chardonnay 2015

Haven’t had these wines in a while so it was great to get reacquainted. Great balance/length, focused with nice generosity and texture. Well made. Stonefruit, yellow apple/pear, flowers and wintergreen, integrated lees work and barrel. — 5 years ago

Maranges Pinot Noir 2015

Black cherry pie, shaved bitter chocolate. It’s dark, round, concentrated. Complex for the price point but I’d prefer something a little more crackling. — 6 years ago

Mémoire de Vignes Champagne Pinot Noir 2011

Gary Westby
9.6

Patrick Arnould passed over 2009 & 2010, but decided to make this 2011- a strange decision on paper. This all old-vine Pinot blanc de noir has it where it counts- in the bottle. Only 60 bottles for the USA, now 59. This seems lighter than past vintages, but still has that Nutella like hazelnut character that screams Verzenay. I will wait a year or two to have my next bottle for sure... But this long wine sure did go down easy last night! — 7 years ago
