In 1858, it was the first winery in Rioja to produce wines using the Bordeaux method. In 1972, it was the first to promote the Rueda Designation of Origin. A blend of 90% Tempranillo & 10% Graciano (varies sometime Mazuelo is added). A powerhouse of aromas, berry, sweet spice and some citrus on the nose. On the palate, dark berry fruits, cacao, some smoky pepper with a savory character. Fine tannins, nice balance and good length ending with slight mineral, oak and earthy tones. Deep Ruby, aromas of sweet red and black fruits with pepper spice, unmistakable Muga. 4 grape blend from the Haro district (70% Tempranillo, rest Garnacha, Mazuelo & Graciano), palate shows cherry and currant flavors with espresso, vanilla & toasty oak tones. Deep Ruby with ripe berry fruits, herbs and spice, aged for 3 years in oak and another 3 years in the bottle before release, Wow! On the palate ripe cherry, blackberries and ample dried fruits, well integrated oak and acidity with pepper, tobacco, toast oak and vanilla. The 2010 ‘Vina Cubillo’ Crianza Rioja is a compelling blend of 65% Tempranillo, and 25% Garnacho, with equal parts Mazuelo and Graciano. This single vineyard Rioja opens with an intense bouquet of sandalwood with pipe tobacco, leather and red fruits that align with the citrus zest and peat moss undertones. The palate revels in its silky texture and soft mouthfeel. Generous red fruits dance with exotic spices, and shades of orange infused black truffle on this exotic palate. Blend of Tempranillo with 19% Mazuelo (Cariñena), unusually high, each aged separately for 26 months (Temp-American / Mazuelo-French), pronounced bouquet of berry fruits with complex spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry, cherry and plum flavors, well balanced, with pepper, cinnamon and slight tobacco. Long finish, tight tannins ending with fruit and an earthy mineral character. Last tasted was ‘11 as there were no ‘12 or ‘13, just tried ‘14 again. Deep Ruby, blend 70% Tempranillo, 20% Graciano & 10% Mazuelo, aged new French oak for 15 months (‘11 was 24 mos). Full red fruit aromas with floral, oak & pepper spice. On palate ripe red fruit flavors, complex with layers of fruit & spice, noting espresso, cacao & licorice. Tannins are still tight and will soften with time. Well balanced, long finish ending with fruit, spice and oak. Decant now, otherwise let sit in the cellar. Nice! — 5 years ago

On the palate ripe blackberry and cherry, firm dry tannins with smoky oak, wrapped in perfect acidity. Aged 30 mos in French & American oak + 18 months in the bottle before release.
