The nose opens seamlessly with ripe plum, blueberry compote, and cassis before evolving into savory waves of smoked meat, dark cocoa, dried violet, and aged soy. Nose is oily and full of liquorice, fennel, lots of tropical fruits, and chalkywet minerals; on the palate the wine is equally oily, fruity, robust, peppery and with a high-octane finish. Dried dirt and a touch of mushroom jump out of the glass immediately. Pomegranate and mulled cranberry with a bit of barnyard and potpourri. The tannins are still there, but acidity is more present. The tartness from the red fruit comes through on the palate with dried dirt, tree bark, and umami. This is definitely mid-morph. Maybe 3 more years would benefit this wine greatly. Honeyed pear, honeyed Apple, and every honeyed tropical fruit. The fruit itself is tart and underripe. No butter, but also not steely. Round palate with melon and cantaloupe on the finish. Drink up. — 8 years ago
