Second time for me tasting this wine and I'm still impressed by the complexity. So many layers of different aromas. Very impressive. On the palate its a totally differential approach than all the GGs I tasted before. Much rounder, softer with pure elegance and a super, super subtle power. This Sankt Nikolaus plays in a totally different league. Kühn told us that he wants to do a different wine out of the grape variety than the other producers. Like the Tements do in Austria with their Sauvignon Blancs he said. — 8 years ago
Zesty, cheek puckering, mineral driven. — 7 months ago
Such an amazing Spätlese. Honeyed nose with apricots and citrus and lime flower. Subtle yet decadent. Unreal clean minerals. So much like a scene in nature. Stunning. Palate is so nimble. Incredible purity, depth and balance. So sappy and round yet terrific cleansing acidity. This is magical. So much going on. So fresh and delicate at the same time with creamy citrus and lime fruits. Let’s see what air does as my score will go higher. — 10 months ago
Classic oily petrol plastic Riesling, but with a crispness and some minerality — 6 years ago
Solid, not the best of her 2015 bottlings, but we sure ain't complaining. — 8 years ago
Another Breuer I got to follow over three days. While it was incredible, I felt the bottle could have been better. The 08’ Schlossberg I had 4 years ago was spectacularly fresh, tight even; and the pair of older 07’ Kellers I had this trip were both fresher; plus this bottle fell off on day 3 while the 09’ Roseneck peaked.
This bottle was best on day 1. It had aromas of smoke, sea spray, nectarines, green apples, lemon rinds, chamomile which kept growing with air, heaps of spices, fresh honey, and a touch of petrol. The palate was super dense and intense, with a screaming acidity and palate-staining stoniness. Huge finish that just seemed endless. Paired with a roasted bone marrow and parsley dish, it was just insane.
Day 2 saw little evolution from day 1. The petrol character totally disappeared, and a mild bitterness appeared. On day 3 the wine just felt tired and not quite at the level of the previous days. All things considered, it was a beautiful riesling, but just didn’t live up to the expectations of its legendary status. — 9 months ago
Pale straw to clear in color. On the nose a perfume of honey, apricot, nectarine, a burst of slate and touch of petrol. On the palate is a nice bit of acid balanced with a touch of residual sugar. The wine glides through the middle and finishes with green apples, melon and honeysuckle. Quite a lovely wine that isn't too loud, where the low mid and highs are nuanced for your tasting pleasure. — 3 years ago
