The 2017 Chateau Coutet is a beautiful wine that is needing a bit more time in the bottle to gain complexity. Aromatically intense, the wine shows good range from honey and nutmeg infused creme brûlée tones that combine with lighter wet stone and brandy soaked pear aromas that take shape in the glass. Flavors of vanilla cream and butterscotch with apricot jelly accents highlight this gorgeous wine. The palate has great tension and verve, revealing a silky mouthfeel. In today's Oasis of fine wine, this 1994 was Definitely Maybe a Rock 'n' Roll Star that was clearly made by a Shakermaker to Live Forever. Whether Up in the Sky or in Columbia, people will recognize this as a Supersonic wine, particularly for the otherwise difficult vintage where the rains did indeed Bring It on Down, driving winemakers to Cigarettes & Alcohol. The soft tannins would make for flexible pairing choices for Digsy's Dinner; this Mouton Rothschild could be Married with Children's chicken nuggets and be just great. — 8 years ago

The 2016 Chateau Climens is a head-turning blend made by the talented Bérénice Lurton, who has managed this property since 1992. 100% Semillon, this golden hued wine shows an exotic aromatic display, offering apricot jelly, pineapple upside down cake, butterscotch and shades of toasted hazelnut the all mingle together on the nose. Showing a glorious combination of tension and viscosity, the 2016 Climens shows incredible length and elegance despite its obvious power. Rich lemon creme brulee, vanilla cream, and orange marmalade flavors combine with a bright sense of minerality and a light salinity. The seamless quality of the wine is remarkable. Took a ton of time to get this drinkable. Cork broke and had to fish out all the bits. Tons of sediment so had to strain that all out. Once drinkable this is fantastic. Fresh baked nut roll on the nose. Like walking into a bakery. Yum yum — 8 years ago

Barolo and white truffle goes together like peanut butter and jelly. What a wine, so much dark fruit even at age ten. Still tightly wound I️t needed a good hour of decanting before some of the floral notes started to emerge with the usual tar and rose characteristics. This has a few decades left in I️t.
