Loved it. Picked it up from Whole Foods and came away pleasantly surprised by its depth. For under $15 you cannot go wrong with this. I'll be buying more. — 8 years ago
@Paul Treadway @Ryan Callahan @Christine Wow!!!! What a freaking Rockstar this was!!! WOTN and I'm not just saying that because my buddy Paul gifted me this 1.5L Beaty!! He's permanently on Santa's list!! It's a wine that I've never had which is always fun to uncork since you truly don't know what to expect!!
This had many of the same characteristics as the Carter but it was so perfectly balanced in comparison. Huge lush dark blue fruit, dark red fruit & all without being "overly" sweet. The lingering sweetness of the Carter really took away from the overall tasting. This was firing on all cylinders. Ryan & I immediately said "WOTN". No questions asked. It was rich, elegant and layered with a minute + finish.
This bottle impressed the hell out of all of us.
I'm a fan! I'll definitely be researching to secure some for my cellar. Paul actually gave me a 750ml of this as well!! I'll be saving that bad boy for another special occasion 👌
Badass in a glass as I always say!!! 👍👏👏👏👏👍. Thanks Paul!!! I — 8 years ago
Fairly smooth, but needs more time in the bottle. I'll buy a few more and put them away for a few years and come back to them. Subtle notes of blackberry and cherry. Very drinkable, but just think it'll be better with time. Reasonable price. Enjoy! — 8 years ago
Super dry, nice texture, a little tannic on the finish. — 8 years ago
Nose is not the best I'll admit. Dominated by a green note that won't go away and only got stronger. Under that is a nice nuttiness and some good spice and cherry fruit, but the green vegetal quality is overwhelming. Palate is great though. Light and ephemeral, sappy and delicate. Very mouthwatering. — 9 years ago
Just delicious. Stands up to a bit of cellaring. 2009 drinking well now but I'll leave a few bottles away for a few more years. — 9 years ago
Absolutely delicious and thriving Syrah. Fruity, earthy, really a great experience, and an easy buy. This is a wine I'll store away a case of for when friends come over. — 7 years ago
What a wonderful wine, and in a good place, wonderful mouth feel, tropical fruit, with hint of vanilla, on the palate apple, pear, with hints of spice giving away to balance & finesse. Beautiful wine! Thanks David @RameyWineCellars! Think I'll take my double mag 05 Larkmead Cab to 4th cookout tomorrow. — 8 years ago
You know, I wonder if the truest test of a wine is if you'd buy it again?
Given the opportunity tonight to buy at a cheaper price than I originally paid, I felt like giving this a try. Unfortunately it fell a bit flat. The tannins weren't quite where they were last time. It veered slightly to the acidic.
I'll put away the last 3 bottles I have for a while and pass on further of this vintage. — 8 years ago
Gaston? This is my last of the 2014 vintage. RATHER interesting how this one has aged. Definitely not in the gutter. The cork had just about bled all the way through. Nose of ripe strawberry and oregano. Definitely not your youthful strawberry or red fruit. The entry reminded me of pomegranate. The middle is herbal, dusty, floral....really different and quite intriguing. Finished very dry. This wine went AMAZING with Herbs de Provence chicken. I wish I had 10 more of these, because although this wine was definitely partially oxidized, age is really doing a good number on this one!! However I'll say...if you got 'em, it's time to drink 'em. But it makes me want to sock the rest of my 15 stash away for a year (as I think the 15 will hold and age much better). — 8 years ago
As a palate often more fond of and familiar with the moving and generally more tense and substantive Pinot Blanc of Alsace and the Palatinate then Pfalz, I seldom find Pinot Blanc outside of those parts firm, flexing and yet nimble. Much like St Innocent, Paetra is a stunning revelation that Oregon has a bright future with this variety. Full but not fulsome, bright without hard edge, fruity but not limited to the Crayola 64. As an aspiring fly fisherman and avid trout eater I now have a screw capped wine for my creel this Spring. Tonight it was a delight with a ginger lemongrass poached cod on a bed of seared bok choy and fluffy white rice. Barely lasted the meal -next time I'll buy two for an evening with my little fox. — 8 years ago
It's a mega fruit bomb; but - so what! It's excellent. I'll never turn a glass or six away. Good stuff for sure... — 9 years ago
Wow., everyone at our table was absolutely blown away at the sophistication and crafted brute force of this wine. We hands down thought our next wine was going to be the WOTN but this actually edged the 3rd. You won't believe what it beat!! This was everything we expected it to be. Dark fruit with a long seductive finish and left you wanting just one more sip every time it was done. We just kept begging for more.....good thing I had a Magnum of this! I've said this a million times already but I'll say it one more time: 11 was not that bad if a year. Time has a way of smoothing out rough edges & Great winemakers always find a way to succeed in less than ideal years. Man., am J glad I didn't back off from my purchases in 2011!!! Thank you Bill & Alicia Deem 😍🍷😍 — 9 years ago
2015 Kutch Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. I think we all know Jamie's story, stock trader turned winemaker, so I'll not repeat it here. Suffice it to say that I lived vicariously through him for years as he apprenticed with Michael Browne and then graduated to his own label. A nicer man you will never meet ( and he knows a thing or two about Porsche as well). Expressive nose of cherries, plums, menthol and forest floor. The palate is slightly sweet with cherries, black raspberry, clove and a touch of oak and brambles. In recent years, Jamie has progressed away from the big, over-the-top, high alcohol Pinots currently dominating the California market. This wine has an earthy, Burgundian character with mouth-watering acidity and smooth tannins. 12.9% alcohol. I see your vision Jamie @kutchwines and I'm still interested in that 912.) — 8 years ago
On the nose; dark cassis, blackberries, blueberries, dark cherries, black plum, black raspberries, caramel, dark, rich soil, dry stones, caramel, dry stems, fresh violets & dark, fresh & dry florals. The body is full, round, lush, thick with nicely resolved, soft, velvety tannins. It glides in the over the palate. Creamy, lush, thick; blackberries, dark cherries, black raspberries, black plum and poached strawberries bring up the rear of the fruits. Mocha chocolate, caramel, dark soil, stones, steeped tea, crushed rocks, bramble, suede leather, liquid violets, fresh dark florals & acidity is soft and perfect. The finish is flat out pure elegance. Creamy fruits and beautiful complimentary soft, semi-sweet earthiness. This is my first of bottle of 10. I'll have another each year for the next nine years. Enjoy noting the changes in the bottle. It's drinking beautifully and has at least another 10 plus years of good drinking ahead. Photos of; Clerc Milon, their barrel room, private tasting room and our friend Jean who is their Winemaker since 09. Prior to that he was the Assistant Winemaker at Opus One for 10 years. He is perhaps the nicest person we've met. We are not the only ones to say that. He was nice enough to allow us to work the 12 Clerc harvest and scheduled a dinner for us at Chateau Mouton Rothschild. An amazing dinner accompanied by 76 Mouton out of 6L. Andy Warhol did the label. He also managed for us to have lunch with the Baroness the next day where 82 Mouton was served. May she RIP. Sadly, she passed away just short of two years later. The Clerc vineyards are adjacent to Chateau Mouton Rothschild. Love the two Baffoons on their label. Happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there! Cheers. 🍷 — 8 years ago
Still a beast at the moment, but after some air, hints of its elegance appears. I'll put this away at the bottle and revisit again many years later. — 8 years ago
If you know me you know that I appreciate value in my wine. This holds especially true when you're purchasing wine away from home, such as at a restaurant or while on vacation. The more aware you are of the general pricing you might find in wine shops and grocery stores, the better prepared you will be to maximize value when you're not playing on your home turf. Case in point, this S. African gem I bought on property at Disney World (not sure if it's widely available here, but you'll definitely find it at the Animal Kingdom Lodge). I've purchased this bottle back home for around $18 (Delectible currently lists it at $19) - Disney is selling it for $23. I'll happily take a $5 mark-up over the more common 50% mark up any day. Maybe Disney gets a great deal on it (although my restaurant sells it for $39ish), either way I was happy to lay down my money.
The wine itself sports a nose of leather, menthol, spice, cigar box, black berries and currant. The palette features brambly black berries and black cherries, accented with a bit of meatiness, black pepper, licorice and a hint of menthol. I could easily see this one mellowing a bit with age/aeration, accenting the more subtle nuances. — 8 years ago
"Put your left leg down your right leg up.
Tilt your head back lets finish the cup!"
Figure that one out @Eric Shanks .
This is fantastic & unique, what else out there smells & taste like this? Because I'll buy it if you tell me, amazing juice .
Closest I can think of is Ramey Pedregral.
For me too much air took away from its uniqueness, I liked it better at P&P — 9 years ago
