Muri-Gries Alto Adige - Südtirol Pinot Grigio

Delectable Wine
8.9

The 2021 Pinot Grigio wafts up, wickedly bright and floral, like a spring day with fresh grasses, lemonade and melon. It washes across the palate silky and finessed with a pretty mix of ripe orchard fruits and inner florals. The 2021 finishes fresh, with medium length and leaves behind sage hints. Pietra Marina Etna Bianco Superiore Carricante 2017

Delectable Wine
9.5

The 2017 Etna Bianco Superiore Pietra Marina makes itself known with a beguiling bouquet that blends crushed oyster shells with rosemary, young apricot and hints of smoke. It’s deeply textural and elegant in feel, with ripe pit fruits that cascade across a core of zesty acids, as nuances of green citrus pinch at the cheeks. This leaves the palate buzzing with residual energy; fresh melon tones linger and are framed by a coating of salty minerality. While the 2017 shows a bit of extra ripeness from the warm vintage, it does so in such a seductive and balanced way. This is top-shelf Etna Bianco by every scope of the imagination. The Pietra Marina is an old-vines selection of Carricante from the Rinazzo Contrada on Etna’s eastern slope. It refines for 24 months on the lees in stainless steel vats prior to bottling. Pieropan

Soave Classico Garganega 2020

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2020 Soave Classico wafts up with enticing notes of kiwi and sour melon contrasted by savory herbs. It’s deeply textural and round in feel, with a tart interplay of lemon and lime that’s nicely offset by a pleasant inner sweetness. There’s wonderful harmony here, as the 2020 tapers off with green botanicals and a flourish of minerality. This “entry-level” Soave Classico from Pieropan punches well above its price point. Since Pieropan makes three different bottlings, one from each tank, of their Soave, I thought it prudent to add the lot number for reference. (Lot# 26.10.21) (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2022)

Rocca di Montegrossi

Toscana IGT Sangiovese Rosato 2019

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2019 Rocca di Montegrossi Rosato is gorgeous, both spicy and floral, with zesty bright cherry and a hint of grapefruit. On the palate, silky, soothing textures usher in ripe red fruits offset by vibrant acids, as hints of sweet spice and salty minerals buzz on the senses. The finish is medium in length and remarkably fresh. (Eric Guido, Vinous, May 2020)

Poet's Leap Columbia Valley Riesling 2021

Delectable Wine
9.2

The 2021 Riesling Poet's Leap is decidedly green in character, wafting up with notes of lychee, lime zest and crushed green apple. This flows across the palate with grace, displaying a pleasant inner sweetness, as tropical citrus and saline-minerals add a lovely tension throughout. This tapers off with young mango notes accentuated by a salty flourish through the long and crisply refreshing finale. The 2021 is so balanced and refined, just 12.5% alcohol, and at just under one gram of residual sugar per liter. (Eric Guido, Vinous, March 2023) — 2 years ago

'61 Brut Franciacorta Chardonnay Blend

Stonefruit aroma reminding me of nectarine and bing cherry with some delicate florals in the background. Tart and juicy body with hints of mandarin orange. Grapefruit drying finish. Pretty nice sparkling. — 3 years ago

San Venz Lessona Vino Rosso Nebbiolo 2012

Lyle Fass
9.1

Man the Appasiemento is really showing in this wine. Yowza. Tar, roses, raisins. Smells almost like Lessona Sforzato. Really weird. Some nice older library books, old wood and sultana. What a crazy nose. I like it. Palate is much more classic than the nose suggests. Big, ripe but also classy and elegant with dark cherry fruit and wood shop shavings. Luscious and juicy but my only issue is it’s drying and the tannins outpace the fruit. Drink now versus aging it longer. — 3 years ago

Camilu Langhe Nebbiolo 2020

Delish!!!! Fresh, ripe cherry, raspberry, kirsch, violet, earl grey tea, licorice, nutmeg and vanilla notes.

High alcohol (14.5% ABV) balanced with fresh, albeit concentrated, red fruit notes. Integrated tannins and medium body.

Beyond approachable Nebbiolo, Langhe DOC, by Guido Porro. Vintage 2020.

Rosso de Véo Umbria Rosso Sagrantino 2015

Delectable Wine
9.3

The 2015 Rosso de Veo is monstrously intense yet wonderfully balanced, showing masses of crushed black cherry, balsamic spice, stone dust and wild, exotic florals on the nose. Velvety textures give way to ripe red and blue berries with a spicy-citrus twang, backed by stimulating acids, as saline-minerality saturates under a coating of liquid violets. This finishes long, staining the palate with fruit concentrate and grippy tannins, yet considering how structured this is, there’s a balance here that provides plenty of pleasure already. This is simply gorgeous and has a very bright future ahead of it. (Eric Guido, Vinous, August 2021)

Rosso Conero Montepulciano 2015

A fruit-forward yet wonderfully fresh red, showing a mix of cherry, raspberry, sweet herbs and spice. Cooling minerals and earth tones balance the warmth of the 2015 vintage nicely. Vinified in large neutral oak. $18.00 (Eric Guido, Vinous, August 2020) — 5 years ago

Vigna Ronco Al Maso Ghemme Nebbiolo 2017

Ghemme is my sentimental favorite of the Novarese DOCs. I had a really good one when I was in my last year of college and starting my wine journey. It generally is one of the heavier and, sometimes, earthier of the group. This one is very good. Still youthful, it takes time to open up, but slowly reveals dark cherry, mahogany furniture, crushed minerally gravel, and roasted meat scents. Medium full, it’s got concentrated and tight dark cherry fruit, very fine-grained but abundantly chalky tannins, and very nice acidity. No rush to drink this. Enjoy over the next 4-5 years, maybe longer. — 2 years ago

Vorberg Riserva Terlano Pinot Bianco 2019

Delectable Wine
9.5

The 2019 Pinot Bianco Riserva Vorberg has an exotic flair, blending rich notes of vanilla custard with white flowers, crushed pears and hints of sweet spice. It’s silky and deeply textural, washing creamy waves of ripe orchard fruits across the palate, while leaving saline-minerals that create a more tactile feel. There are depths yet unseen here, as the 2019 comes across as densely packed and layered, yet with perfect balance and a tart citrus reverberation that adds energy. It finishes long and lightly structured, leaving the palate completely refreshed. This is just a baby today, yet it is full of potential. I tasted the Vorberg from a freshly opened bottle and one that had been opened for two days without any sign of decline. (Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2022)

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend 2017

Delectable Wine
9.3

The 2017 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico pulls you close to the glass with its beguiling bouquet, mixing spicy tangerine and hints of animal musk, giving way to black cherries, rose and cedar spice box. It’s potent and elegant, yet elevated by bright acidity and a cool-toned core of saline-minerals. Sour cherry and exotic spices linger under an air of rosy florals with a chalk-like smoky note. This is only lightly structured and a total pleasure to taste today. (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2022)

Castello della Sala Cervaro della Sala Umbria Chardonnay Grechetto 2019

Delectable Wine
9.2

A mix of mulled yellow apples, crushed hazelnuts, dusty dried flowers and wet stone creates a rich and inviting display as the 2019 Cervaro della Sala evolves in the glass. It’s soft and enveloping, casting opulent waves of textural ripe orchard fruits and subtle savory spices across the palate. Nuances of wild herbs come together with lingering mineral tones under an air of vanilla custard as the Cervaro della Sala tapers off fresh yet with incredible length. This blend, primarily Chardonnay with a dollop of Grechetto, could use another year or two to fully unwind. (Eric Guido, Vinous, August 2021)
