Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

Whoa, a bargain baby. Although it shows some edges, time will tell how they resolve. A touch of VA on the nose took a sec to blow off, then it screamed of red fruit and smoldering tar. The tar thankfully went from smoldering to sparking off here and there, but then the earth, wow, this is earthy, but still, the fruit dominates. The palate nails the Nebbiolo high amounts of everything (acid, alcohol, tannins structure). But the tannins play fairly, a highlight accessory, not a scene stealer. The tannic grip hangs on but in tandem with fruit and soil into which rose petals may have fallen last spring. I can’t believe the price on this bebe. — 5 months ago

Riserva Barolo Nebbiolo 1924

The color of weak coffee with some bottle of the bottom gunk. Va on the nose and light notes of roses and dried fruit. On the palate very pure and lifted. Obviously aged but softening with air and bright and pretty. What a surprise given it’s a centurion. — 8 months ago

Barolo Nebbiolo 2017

2017 vintage. Medium body. Upon opening, fairly compact for a “resto vintage”. The usual tar and dark cherry notes. The longer this was open, the more fanciful it got. French Toast. Cola nut. Chambord. Eucalyptus. White pepper. Pomegranate/hibiscus. Transitioned into a Barolo/(red) Burgundy hybrid. Not enuff structure to go more than 4-5 years in this current uniform. Would attempt another open field tackle again in the near future tho. If you wanna crush an above-decent Barolo tonight without infanticide/ca$hi$h/non-compliant tannin issues, you could do immeasurably worse. 12.15.24. — 6 months ago

Dense and masculine. Broad white thick fruit. Nice rounded edges. Lacks a little of the complexity of the 67 and 64 but good solid fruit. — 8 months ago

Antichi Vigneti Propri Riserva Barolo Nebbiolo 1967

Opened just prior to service and poured into a decanter. This is the second time I have had the opportunity to enjoy the 1967 Riserva although, the previous bottle was a more recent library release from the Borgogno cellars. This was a period release and yet, the experience was similar.

The 1967 Riserva pours a deep garnet color with a transparent core moving towards a slightly orange rim. Medium viscosity with no staining of the tears and some slight signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous but showing much more power than the ‘67 Abbazia SS Annunziata we drank on the same evening. Again, there is a lovely mix of ripe and desiccated red and dark fruits with forest floor, porcini, dried roses, tar, some tobacco, dried herbs, dusty earth and exotic spices. On the palate, the wine is dry; medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long a savory. My previous notes suggested to drink now and while I still hold fast to that statement, twice in the span of 18mos with two separate bottlings encourages me to be a bit more bullish and suggest this has many years, perhaps decades left in the tank.

Cannubi Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

Ruby/ brick in color with medium intensity.

Strong nose of red fruits with earth, light vegetables, light wood, tobacco and chocolate notes.

Medium bodied with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with raspberries, cherries, spices, peppercorn, light wood, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, earth and light vegetables.

Tangy finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 5 year old Barolo from the famous Canubi Vineyard is still a little rigid right now, but already enjoyable. Showing nice complexity with a nice mouthfeel.

Will continue to age nicely in the next 20 years, with good potential to become a 94+ point wine.

Wine Advocate 93 points.

Very tasty and a good food wine that will pair nicely with a big piece of steak.

100% Nebbiolo grapes were only 20% destemmed. Aged for 3 years in large Slavonian oak barrels.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

This is a very young Barolo from Piedmont. Elegant and powerful.

This Single Vineyard Nebbiolo is already drinking very nicely, and better with food.

A good quality wine that will continue to age nicely in the next 15 years.
