Opened tonight, this wine was IMMEDIATELY approachable and the first wine of 16+ that was completely wiped out. If tasted blind, I would have guessed a 2009-2010 Napa floor cab. Youthful fruit, this wine had a very silky mouthfeel. Acidity is nearly zero. Tannin resolved and fully integrated. Wine has youthful blackberry. Middle is elegant, structured; finish is soft, rounded, fruit rich. This wine has integrated nicely, and I still feel that this wine is on its way up or at least right at the top. Although IMO not the best wine on the table, it was certainly the wine that impressed with "youth maintenance." Glad to have opened it for this great crowd. — 8 years ago

The wine shows a nice evolution with an orange rim in the glas. The cork was fully soaked. The nose is discreet. Strawberry jam and some wet earth scents. The palate is not ample. The tannins are now fully integrated. A nice acidic touch makes it interesting with a slight saltiness and strawberry jam again. Not great, a bit discreet but a nice lovable wine considering the vintage. — 9 years ago

Ideal maturity! Like Pontet-Canet and Leoville-Barton, Gruaud made a better 1994 than the more famous 1995 & 1996. This isn't just good for an off year- with prime rib it is great cassis loaded, medium bodied, vibrant claret. — 9 years ago

Opaque in color and chock-full of deep red fruits and berries with a touch of tar and cedar spice. Fully intergraded wine and so pleasurable to drink. I get their Zin and Cab from the winery ever year and have been doing so for 15 or so years. I drink them chronologically no matter what the vintage charts say and these wine never fail to please. — 9 years ago

Not reconditioned and fully mature, this is has a delicate beauty right now. A little fragile, but mostly pure Cab Franc on the nose w/ a very nice silken texture. There's plenty of tannin, but the fruit is running out so drink up! — 10 years ago

Deep garnet red with ruby core. Tasted blind. Very tight and dark on the nose with dark cocoa, dark spices and soft dark berries. Heavy tannins (8/10) and full bodied. Very dark palate as well with black cherries, cassis, black currants, dark cocoa and a little woody. Long and lingering finish. Thought this was a bit older than a 2013 but powerful, needs some time to fully develop. Drink till 2032. (93+) — 8 years ago

This wine needed about 3 hours to release. Initially tight with uncomfortable medicinal nose which then totally dissipated. Drinking now next day and you get the age of fully integrated but not fading tannins. Nose has a delightful dark fruit and smokiness. Great fit of nose and taste, meaning - when tastes after smelling the experience is consistent and not jolting. I think the color purple in a subdued way. Very nice. Memo to self: decant and watch for sediment, and enjoy three hours later. — 8 years ago

Much better than the last bottle I opened. This #chateaulascombes was fully mature and had a taste of metal. For the first 20 minutes the complexity was high and there were some delicious notes.
