Clear bright, medium yellow, no rim. Medium viscosity, no gas or sediment. Delicate nose of caramel and unripe pear, bitter almond, white flowers, gardenia, honeysuckle. Butternut squash. Slightly tropical on the palate with spice, pepper, malolactic, and vegetal notes. Slight oak. Medium body, medium acid and complexity. Well integrated and fresh on the palate. — 8 years ago
I understand it to be a unique blend of Syrah and Pinot. — 10 years ago
Light honey, white flowers and pear on the nose. An almost oily palate with lemon and a supple yet steely middle. Secondary notes coming though but not at all tired. Not sharp edges but very balanced, this is showing really well. Relatively simple, but delicious and no signs of pox. — 6 years ago
One of our favorite Rosés. Now that the 15 has settled in the bottle for year, time to enjoy. It's simply just better a year down the road. On the nose, bright, lean fruits of; strawberries, cherries, tangerine, watermelon. Sea spray, limestone & fresh pink florals. On the palate, the body had a presence of gluey. Fresh, bright, lean fruits of; strawberries, cherries, tangerine. Watermelon, grainy minerals, limestone, perfect level of chalkiness (big but not overpowering the fruit), saline, pink flowers, beautiful, round, soft acidity and a round polish finish 50-50 fruit and earth. Photos of our trip there in April 2016. Estate vines, large oak vat cellar and road signage. Added, are those beautiful Mourvedre grapes being harvested. — 7 years ago

I must say I was a little surprised by our visit to Matthiasson. It’s amazing the amount of wines, varietals and bottling’s they make in a extremely tiny space. As well, the old school wine equipment that produce some very nice to high-end wines. It’s amazing they pull off what they do with facilities so far from the definition of a modern winemaking facility by today’s Napa standards. This says very good things about their staff.
Also, my notes will not be as detailed as I like...our host was speed tasting.
On the nose, lemon, lime, cream, green apple, pineapple, grapefruit, steel/flint and spring flowers.
Full body and a little waxy. Lemon, lime, cream, green apple, pineapple, grapefruit, steel/flint and spring flowers. Nice subtle volcanic minerals and soft chalkiness. Good acidity with a nice finish.
Have most of you picked up on grape shears woven into some of their label artwork?
