One encounter with an ex-château bottle suggested that the 1966 Lynch-Bages is not to be overlooked. Deep in color, it has a tempting nose that unfolds gradually in the glass, graphite and cedar commingling with crushed stone and red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a firm entry, very cedary with touches of desiccated orange peel. It's a bit conservative on the finish, though that is a leitmotif of the 1966 vintage. Well-preserved bottles should still be giving pleasure. Tasted at the Lynch Bages vertical. (Neal Martin, Vinous, July 2023) — 2 years ago
Full bodied, bold. Deep flavors. — 5 years ago
What a nose. It pops. Big peach and apricot and that purest citrusy syrup dash of honey thing. Really singing. Slate in the background but beautiful and clean fruit. Floral and almost a nougat element as well. Stunning. Palate is at once opulent and also bone dry with razor sharp 2008 acidity and cleansing minerality and citrus on the finish which really is long and delineated. This is outrageous now. — 7 years ago
Very yum for $17 at Schneider's — 3 years ago
Tastes like subtle red berries, flinty and terroir. Rated 92 by James Suckling. Soft tannins - not hearty but not as berry flavored as other Garnacha wines. — 5 years ago
Amazingly smooth and the after bite is fire. I am very impressed well worth the buy!!! — 6 years ago

The 2008 Cheval Blanc is one of the go-to wines of the vintage. Now at 15 years old, it has retained the energy and focus it displayed from the outset: black fruit, crushed stone, wilted violet petals and touches of forest floor cohere wonderfully in the glass. The Cabernet here is more expressive. The palate has a slight chewiness on the entry, but it "relaxes" in the glass. It shows off its delicate lattice of tannins and perhaps a bit more backbone than I have observed on previous bottles. It's very intense on the finish where, as before, the Cabernet Franc takes charge. Superb. Keep it another three to four years if you can. Tasted at the Lia's Wings/book dinner at Medlar restaurant. Has been a little over a year and wanted to check in. Gorgeous herbal nose and some just ripe apricot. Lifting minerals. Floral. Citrus. Just gorgeous. Really open. Wow. Palate is a grapefruit and citrus explosion. Wonderful purity and freshness. So delicate yet very powerful and deep. So tense and structured. Wonderful dry extract. Müllen at his best here. Nimble and powerful. With years to go. Such nice sappy citrus and apricot on the finish. — 4 years ago

This really does have Chambolle character. See Lyle’s notes. Light in color, bright, some tea notes but for the most part beautiful fruit, touch cherry, raspberry, citrus… and very soft tannins - days later under my Argon line- faint prune plum. Wouldn’t age this - it is perfect now! — 4 months ago
