Domaine Jacky Truchot

Château Lilian Ladouys

Saint Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

2018 vintage. This estate was bought by Jacky Lorenzetti in 2007 and the investments are paying off (see also the spectacular quality improvement at their Pauillac estate Pédesclaux). While previous vintages featured a majority of Merlot, this 2018 is a blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37%. Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot. This might very well be the best vintage to date for Lilian Ladouys in a year where Jacky's daughter Manon joined the business. She is highly devoted to organic farming and the Lorenzetti estates are now officially in conversion to organic. Moreover, Lilian Ladouys was promoted to "Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel" status in 2020. An estate to watch and the wines are very affordable too at around 20 euros. Classic nose with ripe cassis and cedar wood, intertwined with a fresh minty aroma. In the mouth the fruit is concentrated and layered with amazing freshness and a solid ripe tannin structure that make the alcohol (abv. 14,5%) go unnoticed. Long mineral finish. Highly recommended. Still very young, give it time to open up or decant. Should age beautifully for at least 15 years. — 5 years ago

Domaine Truchot-Martin

Gevrey-Chambertin Pinot Noir 2003

Light, semi translucent color. Very perfumed, elegant, floral, and layers of aromatic lift comprising of earth and red cherries. Brilliant when it was first opened, but it then slightly tailed off after a hour. Less concentrated but more pure than the Morey St Denis 2003 we had a few weeks back. Definitely performing above village level as indicated by the blind tasting responses. Most thought it was a Premier Cru. — 8 years ago

Domaine Truchot-Martin

Vieilles Vignes Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2003

Cool, blood and iron but so elegant. Quite fleshy which is indicative of the vintage. Nose settles down and becomes sweeter and candied. Berries and raspberries. Such an elegant wine for a ripe vintage. Develops more and more of malt candy notes. Seems the riper vintages tend to show the iron and herbaceous quality. — 7 years ago

Remus Montlouis-sur-Loire Chenin Blanc 2017

Honey, nuts, pear, hay, sage, apple, buttery brioche, piercing acidity. Flint and clay over chalk subsoil. “Rémus is made from a second, slightly later harvest through Clos de Mosny, from 50- to 80-year-old vines. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in barrels in his cool underground cellar (which has an ambient temperature of about 12 °C/54 °F) with absolutely no intervention, so fermentation is very slow, taking anything from four to nine months. The wine doesn’t undergo malolactic conversion (Jacky believes that malic acid gives the wines a spine), there is no bâtonnage and no added sulphites during élevage. It then spends 12 months in new (about 10%), one-, two- and three-year-old barrels.” I figure oaky Chenins are growing on me... — 5 years ago

J. Charpentier

Tradition Brut Champagne Blend

Charpentier is a small company part of Vignerons Indépendants founded in 1974 in Villers-sous-Châtillon. The brand was created after the marriage of Jacky Charpentier and Claudine Claisse, both first child of two landowners in the Champagne region.
Most of the vineyards are located on the right side of Marne Valley, on chalk. Pinot Meunier is the main product of the valley. Tradition Brut is the entry level, composed mostly by Meunier, with some traces of pinot noir. Chardonnay, if present, is unnoticeable in the final product.
This tradition brut shows great yellow color with golden notes, with a fine persistent perlage. The nose is based on flowers and fruits, starting from citric and expanding to sweeter notes with time. A delicious touch of apricot and candied oranges complete the bouquet. Very pleasant taste, full-bodied and with a prolonged aftertaste. The acidity we found in the nose is confirmed in the sip. A very good pairing with food, we used it as an all-around appetizer and it managed to pair well even with raw fish.

Triple Zero Montlouis Petillant Chenin Blanc

100% 50 + yr old Chenin from Montlouis made in the Method Anestrale. A natural wine with petulance from the master Jacky Blot. Elegant, very chalky, waxy, honey notes and no dosage...I dig it! — 8 years ago
