Thought this would be a bit lean, but pleasantly proved otherwise. Still very full fruit with a touch greenness. — 10 years ago
The 2016 Léoville-Poyferré appears to have closed up a bit on the nose, perhaps a little cowed by the strong showing of the 2015 on this occasion. It is very pure and begins to unfurl with aeration, but the aromatics are not coming out to play today. The palate is medium-bodied with fine boned tannins, beautifully proportioned and symmetrical. The oak is seamlessly integrated with a citrus touch on the finish. This will be awesome, but it will need time in bottle. Usually the Liaison has an herbal streak. This one does not. It’s more Burgundy ‘like’ than any other vintage I tasted since 2009. Just to get it out of the way the wine is a stunner!!! At its price level the best Pinot money can buy right now if you can find it. Much darker than the 2017. Subdued nose of Cherry. Tart sour cherry just gorgeous and the right amount (not a cherry bomb). Lime. Chalk. Hint of Licorice. A stupid value. I would suggest to drink this without food after dinner. Just to get the depth of flavors in this wine ‘sans’ food. It’s OK now but aging it for 3-5 years will get you to something which will blow your mind. I know E&M personally and to this day I have no clue how they do this - May be it’s the basket press, the grapes or the wood or just their magic touch. While 2017 was difficult 2018 proves again that they are the best in Germany right now. — 4 years ago

I'm going to come clean, I'm not a huge Caymus fan. It's by no means a bad wine - far from it - but I've always felt they blend their Cab with too much Zin. I could be wrong on that account, but I don't think I am. Still, a nice brooding nose of dark red and blue fruit, with a touch of candied fruit and wet earth. — 10 years ago
Blend of 72% Zinfandel, 18% Petite Sirah, 8% Carignane & 2% Mataro. Deep Ruby color with aromas of berry fruits, tobacco and earthy spices. On the palate flavors of blackberry and raspberry with black pepper, tobacco, citrus spice and a touch of earthy herbs. Fine firm tannins, long finish ending with fruit, earthy spice and some cedar. Nice! — 3 years ago
Always a really nice wine at a great price. — 3 years ago

Certainly one of my favorite Pomerol producers. Not their best vintage but still very good and it pairs very well with Ribeye.
On the nose, ripe & sweet; blackberries, dark cherries, blue fruit hues, strawberries, cherries & a touch of pomegranate. Vanillin, mixed berry cola, steeped fruit tea, light dry herbs, cinnamon, menthol, hints of eucalyptus, limestone, dry clay, sweet, rich turned, dark earth, gently, bright, fresh red & dark florals.
The body is medium. The tannins 80% resolved. The fruits are fresh & ripe; blackberries, plum, dark cherries, strawberries, cherries, pomegranate, hues of blue fruits. Steeped fruit tea, vanillin, creamed raspberry cola, some cinnamon, some soft spice, dry herbs, limestone minerals, dry clay, light dry herbs, dry stone, crushed dry rocks, menthol, eucalyptus with soft red, dark & blue florals, nice acidity and an elegant, well balanced finish.

Of the 2 Bordeaux drinking the best tonight, but long term the Brane-Cantenac 2005 will outlive this wine by 10 years easy. While very complex, a fine touch a green is traceable.
A classic currant and forest floor nose, fall leaves abound with a spike of spice and a barely there green that while subtle is apparent.
The pleasure here is higher for its more mature tasted and feel, while the brawny 2005 is a better wine it was not as enjoyable to me and feel it will be another notch enter in 3 years, and likely 2 notches better in 5.
The elegance and feel on this wine is ready to go and will easily go another 5+ years. — 9 years ago

Got a great deal on 6 pack of these two Bordeaux greats. Both got scores of 99, but the range of scores was pretty wide for both as well. I know I have to lay them down for 10 years+ but I wanted to try both for a baseline.
The Palmer is showing a lot more than the Ducru. It’s very enjoyable now! Nose is fantastic if a touch muted but still get nice cedar, black cherry, hint of floral, and something herbal. The palate is slate, cherry, blackberry, and currant. Not muted or closed in the least, but the slate thing overlays the fruit. Does that make sense? Help me describe that.
All in all I love this wine. Can’t hardly wait for 10 years from now. Guessing I won’t! — 3 years ago
