This wine needed about 3 hours to release. Initially tight with uncomfortable medicinal nose which then totally dissipated. Drinking now next day and you get the age of fully integrated but not fading tannins. Nose has a delightful dark fruit and smokiness. Great fit of nose and taste, meaning - when tastes after smelling the experience is consistent and not jolting. I think the color purple in a subdued way. Very nice. Memo to self: decant and watch for sediment, and enjoy three hours later. — 10 years ago
Everything I could possibly want it to be at this age. Damsons and blackcurrant, meat, smoke, earth. Depth, power, complexity. Packs a huge punch (I laughed when I first put my nose in it) yet stays dainty and elegant. A hippo in a tutu doing a startlingly good pirouette, a wild animal and an aristocrat. Am almost frightened by how good this will be when fully mature. — 10 years ago
Freakin amazing old world wine with dark cherry flavors and smooth deep tannins from LEBANON !!! My mind is fully blown. — 12 years ago
Fully mature and delicious. Very Burgundian — 9 years ago
Deep garnet red with ruby core. Tasted blind. Very tight and dark on the nose with dark cocoa, dark spices and soft dark berries. Heavy tannins (8/10) and full bodied. Very dark palate as well with black cherries, cassis, black currants, dark cocoa and a little woody. Long and lingering finish. Thought this was a bit older than a 2013 but powerful, needs some time to fully develop. Drink till 2032. (93+) — 9 years ago
The wine shows a nice evolution with an orange rim in the glas. The cork was fully soaked. The nose is discreet. Strawberry jam and some wet earth scents. The palate is not ample. The tannins are now fully integrated. A nice acidic touch makes it interesting with a slight saltiness and strawberry jam again. Not great, a bit discreet but a nice lovable wine considering the vintage. — 10 years ago
Magnum. 1971 Barbaresco. Fully mature and perhaps on the decline, but still showing dried rose petals and other delicate floral and earth tones. Pale rose colored typical of many very old Barbarescos. Clearly a wine geek's wine. I really liked it. Bottle had shown some very slight seepage not seen until the capsule was removed. A second Mag, not opened, seems to show better condition on closer examination. — 11 years ago
Ridge Wine Dinner. I brought this cloaked in a brown bag to share with the Ridge winemaker. He guessed late 80s which shows how long these wines can age. From a well stored bottle with an in to the neck fill. Old tawny color, translucent and clean. Linear nose with currant, saddle leather, old wood and dirty gravel stone. Perfectly balanced in the mouth with fruit that is slightly faded, but matched well with fully resolved tannins. With several hours of air a richness in the fruit developed that was extraordinary. Yet still some acidity and structure remains so this should stay in a nice drinking window for the foreseeable future. Winemaker Eric explained that based on inspection of the glass, the bottle I brought was one of the '78 MBs that was not rebottled due to a malo issue after initial bottling, which might explain how fresh it is versus other '78 MBs he said. — 9 years ago
I had high expectations with this example, and was not disappointed.
Nutmeg, cinnamon and maraschino cherries on the nose. The palette is quite soft, with tannins that are fully evolved. I can taste the Rutherford dust, along with coffee and maple syrup. It's so succulent - no food required. Finishes with an uncommon presence. This is turning out to be an outstanding Sunday treat. — 10 years ago

One of my favorite red wine in Bordeaux. Strong body and silk mouthfeel. Fully strong scents of red fruits taste like cream cheese cake. Soft with power, nice balance! — 11 years ago

Another great btl of this vintage showing sweet red & black fruits, cassis, cedar, leather, with graphite & tobacco. This is rich bodied, fully mature & should drink well for many years. — 8 years ago
