Remarkable. Juicy and so dense but my goodness this is so elegant. It’s amazing how light on its feet the wine is for such a big boy. Genius. — 2 months ago

Gorgeous wine! Elegant, satiny and detailed with a beautiful bread dough, orange blossom and citrus-spice aromatic core and a chiseled, textured palate with racy and zesty lemony acids driving all of its flavors home. Going to age perfectly. 🙌🏻 — 5 months ago

Morey Saint Denis Pinot Noir 2018

Splash decanted directly prior to service, the 2018 Morey Saint Denis pours a deep ruby with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose the wine is youthful with powerful notes of ripe and tart red fruits: red cherries, red brambles, red flowers, some herbs and a healthy dollop of warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and luxurious. A fairly flashy wine and, to my palate, the oak is showing prominently right now. Not out of balance, but close. The alcohol is up there…but it is pretty well disguised. Not wimpy, that’s for sure. While this is certainly full of energy and character right now, I think this wine would enjoy some time in the cellar to show even better. Drink from 2028 through 2043. — 2 months ago

Domaine Armand Rousseau

Clos St. Jacques Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir

Mystery achievement, don’t breathe down my neck, no. Excellent fill. 95% saturated cork. Labels a bit yellowed. Decanted and tasted after 15 mins, 45 mins and 1.5 hours. Big, chunky sed. Funk in the immediately decanted nose that blew off after a couple of decanter swirls. A bit of aged color with noticeable meniscus in the glass. Spearmint and orange peel in the nose. Cinnamon and spicy clove kicked in the back door to crash the party. Remarkable concentration in the nose and taste throughout the 1.5 hours. This had a fantastic, 40+ second finish with plenty of viable tannins still maintaining decorum. So yeah, the mystery…the shoulder vintage label was missing and vintage nowhere to be found on the cork, foil or front/back labels. Came from a top-notch cellar. Based on the yellowing of the label, cork saturation, fill, color/meniscus, flavors concentration/structure, initially thinking it to be either a 1978 or 1985 offering. Going with 1978 based on the obvious/large meniscus, amount of sediment, marvelous concentration for the performance and yellowing of the labels. Regardless, arguably the best Burg I’ve had in the last dozen months and def the best 1er Cru. Whatever vintage it was, has another decade-easy-rocking this hard. 3.20.24. — 3 months ago

Domaine Marquis d'Angerville

Clos des Ducs Monopole Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 1996

1996 vintage. Redonkulous, mid-neck fill and pristine cork (have had 17-20 similarly stored/performing bottles of different producers, varietals, regions from this particular cellar). Decanted with a mix of small chunk and coffee ground sed. Tasted immediately and over the course of two hours. That aged, silvery sheen in the color with a noticeable meniscus. Quiescent nose in the early going and showing. Took approx 30 mins of repeated decanted agitations to coax out a mix of herbs, orange zest/peel and slight beefiness. All this plus some American milk chocolate coalescing in flavor land. Light body. Still going strong after two hours. Likely another 7-10 years of drinking pleasure left from an above average vintage. 12.30.23. — 5 months ago

7 Crus Brut Champagne Chardonnay

Delectable Wine
9.0

The NV Brut 7 Crus is a very pretty, entry-level wine in this range. Bright, mineral and intensely vibrant, the 7 Crus is all energy. All the elements are so well proportioned. A blend of 90% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir, this captures all the house signatures with tons of energy and better overall balance than in some previous editions. White flowers, chalk and citrus linger. Dosage is 6 grams per liter. Disgorged: June, 2023. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2023)

La Mouline Côte-Rôtie Syrah 1994

Believe it or not, this is my first La-La and what a way to do it with a 1994 no less! Flintstone vitamins, gym socks, pomegranate, purple flowers, minerals like crazy…and what seemed like an impenetrable wall of granite. Tons of baking spices. Modern? Yeah of course but my goodness the quality is indisputable and this worked really well with Iberico pork cheek, mushroom ragu with lavender and thyme. The reality is, even at 30 years old, this is youthful. Drink now through, I dunno, 2044? — 3 months ago

Grands Échézeaux Pinot Noir 2018

To celebrate my 9,000 reviews on vivino, here is a beautiful Pinot Noir.

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Strong fruity nose with bing cherries, raspberries, sweet strawberries, spices, oak, vanilla, licorice, chocolates, tobacco, earth and black pepper.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry and fruity on the palate with blueberries, black cherries, light earth, herbs, spices, vanilla, cedar, black pepper, light cola, dark coffee and licorice. black pepper.

Medium plus in finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This Pinot Noir from Burgundy is already drinking very nicely, but still extremely young. Well balanced and smooth with nice complexity and mouthfeel.

I had it blind right out of the bottle. That was a nice surprise. I called 2018 Burgundy Pinot Noir, but I did not see this kind of bottle coming... What a great experience to blind taste such an iconic wine.

There is always an aura when drinking these kind of wines, but drinking them blind, gives you a perspective that might be missed otherwise.

Needed 2 hours in the decanter to open up properly, and bring more complexity. Much better once it opens up.

Robert Parker 94 points.

I had an older vintage of this wine a year ago, and it is such a different wine. Will continue to age nicely in the next 30 to 40 years.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$2,500.

Deeper colour ruby still with garnet rim . Quite floral nose , more fresh fruits , mix of red and dark . On the palate more dense , slightly riper but still fresh , darker fruit , quite wild and detailed . Well balanced acidity , quite gritty tannin , fills out well on the palate . Good length , drinking well now but will age longer over the next 8-10 years . — 6 months ago

Pnp perfection with a captivating and explosive layered bouquet of candied red cherries, rose petals, coffee beans and exotic spices. The palate is luxuriously silky with obvious grand cru weight and intensity and there is stunning purity and elegance to balance such power and exhilarating energy. An incredible combination. Its spice and mineral laced finale just keeps on going. One of the best CDLR’s in the biz was perfect tonight. — 8 months ago
