Light in colour with green-silver shine.
Nice reduction in the nose with toasted sesame, salty popcorn, ripe yellow peach and exotic fruit + a whiff of herbs. Fresh & juicy.
On the palate this is nicely rounded with layers of fresh peaches & pineapple and salty, mineral notes.
This has nice depth & complexity yet remains elegant & is (already) drinking beautifully. But I’ll stock up & see how it evolves.
Südsteiermark is becoming my go-to destination for Chardonnay, next to southern Baden & Pfalz (Burgundy becoming too expensive) — 3 years ago
Mid to deep crimson in colour. Aromas of red berries, a little oak, a bunchie stalky note, spices including nutmeg and a dash of chocolate. Medium plus bodied quite northern Rhone in style more than SA. Not dissimilar to another excellent North Island Syrah as in Trinity Hill, Hawkes Bay. Very good, very tasty. From the unlikely destination of Waiheke Island which is in the middle of Auckland Harbour, which is massive in area compared to Sydney Harbour. One would think the rainfall might be a little high for quality viticulture but not so. Also when you think that one of the best new world Chardonnays in Kumeu River is made just to the north of Auckland. — 3 years ago

Excellent, would definitely have again. Slightly fruitier than your average dry Sauvignon. Purchased via Naked. — 3 years ago
Today it’s time for "Destí" with Grenache only, by Merum Priorati @merumpriorati. It comes from the vineyards that are halfway up the slopes of this winery. A friendly but powerful Priorat wine with body and very balanced. "Destí" (destination) symbolizes the place where wines of Merum aim for, no more and no less than Heaven. Another one of my bottles opened for a massive Paso theme. After having the 2016 last year during a virtual tasting with Connor of Fulldraw, I think this 2017 has more upfront appeal whereas the 2016 has a touch more longevity.
I double decanted this for an hour, then put it in a decanter at my destination where I followed it for the next 4hrs. The profile didn’t really change all that much after the first 1-2hrs. This is high octane without being overblown and flabby. Half Syrah, with the remaining split between Grenache and Mourvèdre. Gorgeous royal purple in the glass. Aromatically I didn’t pick up a lot of smoked meat/savory Syrah notes, but mostly a lot of dark chocolate dipped black cherries, dark floral potpourri and fleshy fruits...as if it were mostly Grenache. The palate was the same...high toned ripe fruit with nice lift and acidity, and an airy jammy character I find in high quality Paso wines.
I saved the last third of this and opened again the next day and there was zero change. Best over the next 3-5yrs for this type of profile. — 3 years ago
A rich and savory blend of Touriga Nacional and Syrah, it offers a deep and complex nose of currants, plum, black pepper, black tea, dried mushrooms, saddle wood, and dark chocolate. Bright acidity brings energy to a full body.
Could not be more happy to pick out this gem at a great restaurant in Macau, probably one of the most under-the-radar (certainly not underrated as this tiny peninsula boasts 3 Michelin 3-star restaurant) food destination. — 5 years ago

Some more single vineyard Chardonnay, didn’t have high expectations for these wines as the actual winery seems like a photo op destination more than anything. Very pleasantly surprised, minimal to no oak; upwardly linear, medium to full bodied but still bright and vibrant. — 2 years ago
