Huntington Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir 2018

I’m a big fan of PNs from SLH and maybe see SB a second with some others but this Pali (under $20) bottling just kept on opening and ended up with a lot of sweet berries. If you don’t get Pali check them out and join their club. Great drinking whites and reds — 6 years ago

Ten Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir 2003

Really interesting to drink this one at 16 years old. And although I think this was on the back side of the hill, it was still very much in the game. Lost lots of its sweet fruit cham. More linear. Mulberry and some fig and clove. Can definitely taste the age. If cellared well, I actually think this has a couple of years but I don't think it has more than that. — 7 years ago

I considered not rating this as I didn’t want to skew the overall ratings (as this was almost completely over the hill, in my opinion) however, there was enough life left and since it wasn’t compromised, maybe this will help convince others to open now if they have them! The fruit (raspberry, black cherry) was very muddled and provided the nose flavor at the front of the palate. Tobacco, old Fig Newton, and thin on the finish. Not much acidity. Drink up.

Côte Blonde Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara Syrah Blend 2017

Cracked this on Friday before our Christmas party. Then it was drinking like a Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir.

Diving off into this bad boy this afternoon and it seems to have changed a bit. It's almost like the alcohol increased. It's coming in a little hot on the front end. Mellows out quickly though. It's got a super rich meaty sensation to it that finishes with a little vanilla dancing on the tongue. Good stuff.

Santa Barbara County White Blend

Every white grape on earth might be in this blend. The result is a blast of ripe apricot, pear and melon. Hint of lime. Maybe some fennel? Very fruity, but not to the point of no return. If you’re not looking for crisp acidity, you’ll be okay with Tenshen. — 8 years ago

Santa Barbara County Red Blend 2014

Deep purple in color with a short purple rim.

Very fruity on the nose with blackberries, plums, cooked cherries, oak, dried figs, alcohol, licorice, light oak, spices, chocolates, peppercorn, dark coffee, tobacco and vinegreate.

Full bodied, smooth and bold, with medium acidity and long legs.

Extremely fruity on the palate with sweet cherries, blackberries, figs, raisins, vanilla, wood, smoke, spices, licorice, spices, dark chocolates, black pepper, graphite, light vegetables and coffee.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries.

This is a wonderful Rhône blend from Santa Barbara County. Nicely balanced with mild complexity and a nice tangy finish. Has a very nice mouthfeel.
(Might have some RS).

Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up (90 minutes).
Good by itself or with food, like BBQ Meats.

A blend of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvédre, Petite Sirah & Merlot. Aged for 10 months in Oak barrels. 90 points Wine Enthusiasts.

Delightful and delicious.

15.5% alcohol by volume.

White Hawk Vineyard Syrah 2012

The 2012 White Hawk showed incredible intensity, yet remained balanced and graceful throughout, showing a unrelenting bouquet of black cherry, baked plums, violette floral tones, cola, smoke, crushed stone and spice cake. On the palate, it was silky with sweet, spiced dark fruits, cherry sauce, and licorice. It literally saturated the senses without showing a hint of its 15.4% alc. The finish went on and on with dark fruit, spice, and purple floral tones. This is full throttle yet refined and layered—color me impressed. — 11 years ago

Vandenberg Riesling 2013

I had this at Kali in Los Angeles, where sommelier Drew Langley watches over an immaculately curated wine list. Does "Summer of Riesling" do it for you? It does for me, especially when they are such good examples. My wife had a Kabinett, but I had this Vandenberg example from Santa Barbara County. They listed it as "dry and medium bodied," which is good advice for a Riesling. This one, though, has a nice touch of petrol - I mean why order Riesling unless it has that? - along with extreme minerality and a muted citrus note. Paired it with the Niçoise salad to great effect. Also a hit with the wife's roast pork, Pennsylvania native that she is. — 10 years ago
