Turley made this wine from 1994-2010 and to me it was always the benchmark for the varietal during that era. The 13.9% alcohol was probably the lowest in Turley's lineup back in 2002. Their Charbono has always been a sneaky good ager and this is no exception. Probably already on a slow decline now I wouldn't hold on to these much longer. The Tofanelli family now keeps their own fruit. I'll have to try their version one of these days. — 9 years ago
This is a blend of Zinfandel (47%), Syrah (32%), charbono (12%), petit Syrah (9%). Big lush fruit with blackberries, plums, dark cherries in a moderate acidic finish. — 9 years ago
Great blend! Comes off as a heavy Italian wine but is very easy on the pallet. Lots of fruit. — 6 years ago
Juicy plum, blueberry pie, black cherry, blackberry, cassis, and violet. Notes of carbonic maceration or at least some whole cluster. Neutral oak. Elevated acidity, medium soft tannins, and moderate body. Medium(+) finish. Simple but delicious. — 7 years ago
Blackberry, cherry, raspberry preserves, smoke, vanilla tobacco and oak. Good structure and soft tannins. — 7 years ago
Deep dense fruit with little acidity, quite an interesting bottle and unique grape. Worth a try for something different. — 8 years ago
Blackberry pepper great legs banging charbono — 9 years ago
Deep garnet hue showing very well. Bouquet springs forward with bing cherries and elegant structure. Red fruits wrapped in delicate but prominent earthy and smoky hints. And it keeps going! The finish is long with anise notes coming to life then ending in a classic old world balance. This one might be peaking for many years. Excellent framed acidity. — 9 years ago
So visually sexy the deep rich purple sticks to the glass like sweat on a hot day. The nose is intoxicating Rich pulling around nice and gives you a hint you might be about to experience something wonderful. The mouth is immediately filled with a warmth and richness that only continues with flavors of chocolate plums cloves and turmeric. — 6 years ago
