Château Haut-Bailly

Pessac-Léognan Grand Cru Classé Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

Inky red orange with currants on the nose and palate. Opened up a couple of hours after uncorking with some sweet coconut shavings on top of the red fruits. Will continue to develop. — 5 months ago

Château Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend

It has something really unique as always. But it’s so austere this year. A wine that really will need time to be enjoyed at its fullest.

I’m not selling my white Burgundy but I understand your point. It is an enjoyable heady wine.

M. Chapoutier

Domaine de Bila-Haut Occultum Lapidem Syrah Blend

NOSE: mild, cooked fruit, a little carob. Inoffensive but not especially inviting.

TASTE: cooking spices, chicory, ash, a little bitter —unsweetened minerally dark chocolate - red fruit barely present and dried. Very balanced and elegant. This is going to kill with the herb roasted chicken I’m about to eat. 91.

Château Smith Haut Lafitte

Grand Cru Classé Pessac-Léognan Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2014

Pop and pour. A beautiful dark ruby red color. On the nose: very aeromatic with dark fruit, herbaceous, some funky earth, leather and touch of mint. Taste: dark cherry, chocolate espresso, spice, tar, little bit of green veggie, and a medium dry finish with a slight still there tannic kick. — 3 months ago

More expressive than HB.
Very elegant, deep and austere.

Château Caronne Ste. Gemme

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

Full bodied, dense, deep ruby Bordeaux. On the nose: dark mulberry fruit, cedar, & a touch of eucalyptus/camphor. On the palate: dark fruit, cedar and light tannins. After 40 minutes decanted the tannins recede and the soft fruit is delicious. This wine is fully mature and a terrific offering from Medoc. If you have it or can get it, drink now and enjoy! — 7 months ago

Copain

Kiser "En Haut" Anderson Valley Pinot Noir 2011

Mason Balistreri
9.2

Why is everyone sad that Copain sold to KJ? I predict that the prices will be better and the quality will be more consistent. Don't make me remind you of the 2015 rose which was completely reductive to the point that I had to send cases back to the distributor. It didn't even blow off after 2 days! Anyways, this is a good bottle. When these are too young, they taste like warhead candy, but with just a few years on them, they taste like perfect black berries that just now became ripe. Also, Ray blind tasted me on this and I called it down to the producer. — 8 years ago

You answered your own question. Consistency is exactly what we wish to avoid. We don't need any more Cali wines that taste the same year after year from manipulation.

@Neil Barham Your dumb to not want consistent quality. Does that mean that it should taste the same every year? Of course not! I am the most die hard natural wine person you will ever meet and I am telling you right now that the Copain rose I had was ruined by excessive so2 last year. I don't want manipulation. People confuse the bullshit marketing for the matters of fact. Just because a wine is small production and uses whole cluster doesn't make it natural or un-manipulated. Too many wineries are riding this low alcohol and whole cluster trend right now and Copain was one of them.
