Very classic Sancerre. Just ripe enough to avoid unpleasant greenness, there’s some fruit, but the terroir really shines through. Nice, young Margaux, plenty of potential here. Needs a little time to open up but after an hour this is very enjoyable. Nose is blackcurrants, oak, vanilla and a little menthol and spice. Early on the palate is fresh and clean but a little savoury however, the fruit and some sweetness evolve as it warms up. Tannins are present but not too drying and on day two they have smoothed out. This is a good value wine, worthy of cellaring, give it five years and probably be at the sweet spot. — 6 years ago

This is magical. You know when a white is really open for business and showing the benefit not detriment of oxidation? This is that. Compelling and mature and probably in its best spot. This property was a Bill Blatch favorite-and as usual I have never visited the property which is located in Begadan. Château Vieux Robin is a family owned Cru Bourgeois estate located in Begadan at the far north of the Médoc. 5th generation owners Maryse and Didier Robin have made huge strides in terms of quality since they took over in 1988. Didier Robin, who learnt his trade at Château Clarke, is a skilled winemaker and now produces 4 different cuvées of ascending quality.There are only 18 hectares of vines and Vieux Robin is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot. Old school Bordeaux with 12% alcohol. Over 20 years old and still lively and fresh. No fancy oak here-just good Merlot and Cabernet.

Appearance: clear clarity, medium intensity, garnet. Nose: clean condition, medium intensity, aroma - cigar, black berry, fruitcake, stewed prune. Palate: dry, high acidity, medium (+) chalky tannin, flavour - dark cherry, chocolate, smoky, long finish.
