This past Saturday I attended a get together with close friends. We opened the 2014 Saarloos & Sons Family Tree Rhone Blend. 55% Grenache, 27% Mourvedre and 18% Syrah. This was the hit of the evening that turned heads and got people talking.
The nose was light with cherry, raspberry, plum, cinnamon, black pepper, anise, roses and an earthy gravel.
On the palate was beautiful fruit of black cherry, blackberry, plum, black pepper, anise , clove and a good gravel component.
The wine was soft velvety smooth with a medium mouth feel and medium to plus acidity with medium smooth tannin that leads to a medium long finish. A very enjoyable wine. Almost the weekend please be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 7 years ago
F’ing A! Not that I have tasted every Carmenere produced in the USA, but if this isn’t in the top 5, I don’t know what is. Big as a cab, in flavor. White pepper, ripe plum, and blackberry notes dominate. Huge for this varietal, could easily age for several years. Yum! — 8 years ago
On the sweeter side, a great screened in porch sipper. — 8 years ago

Curious, so I decided to open up one of these while waiting for someone to help me consume the other half.... This wine is youthful, and for that reason is a bit out of balance from the previous wine I remembered and scored quite a bit higher than this one. This wine is a 93 right now, with potential for a 96-97 IMO. The fruit in front is massive. Black cherry, black licorice, but as @Shay A was mentioning there is a red fruity kind of touch to this one and I completely agree. The middle is a little bit muted vs. the previous vintage. The finish is quite peppery, toasted oak. Tons of potential on this full bodied Moon Mountain monster. Hold for the next 10 years. — 7 years ago
Aromas of cocoa and cola. Velvety texture with a bright finish. Notes of ripened cherry, wild blueberry, and slight earthiness. Try the 2015 vintage now through the next 5 years! — 8 years ago
Blue and black fruit with sweet spices, ash, and menthol. Definitely decant! — 8 years ago
Outstanding aged Navarra. Ready to drink now. Earthy raisin notes, but holding on to the right amount of smooth acidity. 70% Tempranillo, 30% Cab, 13.5% alc #garagiste — 8 years ago
Back to Walla Walla. Always interesting, always good. This is one spicy beast. Great with our home made spicy Indonesian/Italian macaroni (...don't ask) it was great! — 9 years ago
