Caymus Vineyards

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

First taste reminded me of Firenze in that the leather belts and purses were on the nose. Lots of floral arrangements now, solid round, very nice as always. Shout out to my 1 follower @Bill Bender ... it's my birthday and my goal is to be drinking at your level next year!

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 1991

Another one. In good condition even if the cork was impossible. Opened up well as it shed all the meaty, coffee age to be a elegant and assertive speaker. — 9 years ago

Château Latour

Premier Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1945

Tasted blind. Deep purple color. Looks very young, compared to the 45 Margaux next to it. Almost opaque. Notes of black fruit, cracked walnuts, sweet fruit, raspberry and some cedar desk. Super rich in the mouth. Seems young and is firm, but tannins are softened and the mouthfeel is velvet touch. Long finish. It peacocks all night. The walnuts thing leads my guess to Latour, but can this be the 45? Is it a 61 or 82? Could be... I go with it being a 59 given how young it seems. Just an amazing bottle of wine, open for ~9 hours by the time we left, it seemed to effortlessly power along. Thanks Stan! — 3 years ago

Oak and leather on nose. Bold, mild tannins, dry. Plums, blackberries, black cherries. Long satisfying finish. Outstanding! This is going to be a monster in 5-7 years. — 6 years ago

Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 1998

Black currant, leather, and pencil shavings. I know 1998 was meant to be a tough year for Napa, but not apparent here - truly gorgeous. — 9 years ago

Château Palmer

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 1970

Not a perfect bottle. Lowish fill... A touch of madeirization and a drying finish. But a nice heft of clear, intense fruit. Would be excellent if a bit fresher — 9 years ago

A bit tired and drying out. Still a bit of that Palmer mulberry hanging on.

Château Cheval Blanc

St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 1961

I have tasted many 1961 over the years, this continues to be one of my favorite wines...The strange thing is that this bottle with its high necklinewas the youngest 1961 that I had ever tried, wine had an great Providence - One owner and one incredible cellar.

1961 was a magical year on the right bank; now over 50 years of age it has lost some weight but picked up elegance on the nose - wet clay, graphite/lead pencil, umami/truffle - nose candy for sure.

Château Calon-Ségur

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2004

Of the 2 Bordeaux drinking the best tonight, but long term the Brane-Cantenac 2005 will outlive this wine by 10 years easy. While very complex, a fine touch a green is traceable.

A classic currant and forest floor nose, fall leaves abound with a spike of spice and a barely there green that while subtle is apparent.

The pleasure here is higher for its more mature tasted and feel, while the brawny 2005 is a better wine it was not as enjoyable to me and feel it will be another notch enter in 3 years, and likely 2 notches better in 5.

The elegance and feel on this wine is ready to go and will easily go another 5+ years.
