Elliott's birthday dinner at Delfina! I'll admit up front that I love the story of carmignano, and this biases me. Folks there have been adding Cabernet Sauvignon (they all it "uva Francesca"--the French grape) to Sangiovese for 100s of years, and it doesn't over power the Sangiovese. I found lots of flavors in this: sour cherry, red plum, figs, red raspberry, leather, toasted fennel seed with sweet Tuscan herbs, licorice, and loads of stony minerals. Especially on the palate there were bright and complex notes of spicy orange zest. If the finish isn't the longest most complex thing you've experienced, the aroma and flavor make up for it. Bright acidity and fine grained tannins supported everything as they should. I'm curious--this is hovering at peek (the tight finish) or about to blossom and develop for another decade or two. Only one way to find out... — 10 years ago

Sangiovese with 10-20% of cabernet--called "uva francesca" locally--and both express themselves beautifully. There is plenty of sour cherry, plum, and green tea Sangiovese here, and the cabernet fruit adds a darker blackberry and leather nuance. The heady aroma and intense flavors are nicely supported by felty tannins, bright but integrated acidity, and a silky medium-weight body. — 10 years ago
Oak unfortunately mutes the nose but the palate still shows some blueberry pie and lengthy soft tannins — 10 years ago

Very pretty bouquet red cherry fresh ground beef and light earthy notes this area is famous for wild boars the family vacationed here in the past and fell in love with the area and the women Francesca wife is rom the maremma. Warmer than the chianti region they have to drop irrigate their big and have spice and a bit of salinity Sangiovese and Alicante Bouchet bright rom Spain in the 1600s normally used to add color to the lighter Sangiovese and has beautiful I aromas this is very good — 11 years ago
Pinotman /// Andreas
A well off friend did bring this one to our Friday tasting at the wine store ---- and yesterday I first liked it and then was unimpressed??? Just a bunch of acid and little fruit behind it so my bet was this will not make it. Michele I think she is a sommelier agreed. So this morning I am sitting here in the sun and give it a second shot after air for 15 hours (that should do it 😁). AND? I was wrong! Red currant nose very Burgundian 12.8%. In a blind tasting I would think this is a Gevrey Chambertin. Tealeaves, forest floor, dirt, cloves, all spice, dark berries and just a super tiny hint at California fruit very impressive! So the problem is how long do you need to give this air 30 min or 15 hours oh boy 👍🍷🍷🍷. — 9 years ago
