95 pts from RP: "An extra special wine, the 2009 possesses full body as well as a terrific bouquet of blue and black fruits, crushed rocks and spring flowers." This wine definitely called for a nice steak, it's muscular, super rich. I would cellar this for a while. It's a limited production release which is full bodied and a great example of 2009 Napa Cabernets. — 9 years ago

Raul is one of those special and unique producers whose wines stand out in just about any field with others of similar quality. I could fill pages with tasting notes, but I feel it’s more appropriate to simply reiterate that these wines are beautiful, complex, superbly crafted and downright delicious. It is nearly impossible not to drink a whole bottle. I’m giving an extra point or two for the Saint Jacques Mencía cuvée because of the exceptional value it delivers at well under $20. This would embarrass many village level Burgundies at three or even four times the price. — 6 years ago

Tonight’s wine club gathering was extra special due to the fact that each selection put forward for tasting had a unique and special story behind it; each wine had a “near and dear” element to it that made tasting it all the more enjoyable while the stories surrounding them were told.

This selection and vintage holds special meaning for me. The memories associated with it are truly sweet. So elegant and beautiful; once the funk blew off after about an hour in the decanter the true nature of the wine blossomed. Savory notes of molasses, plum, and fig married with the cool, intoxicating aromas of eucalyptus and mint laced in dark, sweet, dusty fruits. So delicious. I’m thankful I have a few more of these in the cellar. — 8 years ago
