Manuel Antonio de la Riva y Pomar

Alvear Colección No. 1 Crianza Biologica Pedro Ximénez

From Bodegas Alvear, all Pedro Ximinez
Vineyards since the 1700’s.
8 yrs. under flor in Montilla.
Big buttery, old boats(wood) nose, pepper.
Pepper on the tongue, some butterscotch, salinity. The mouthfeel is ridiculously seductive.
I used a bit to deglaze pan of merguez sausages…Yah!

Fino C.B. Montilla-Moriles Pedro Ximénez

Nutty aromas combine with flavors of lemon, olive brine, seawater, and chalk. Dry and quite smooth, the 15% alcohol is seamlessly integrated. Great acidity, super fresh, love it chilled! — 7 years ago

Moscatel

Ok over served at the restaurant last night. Great dessert wine- not to sweet with some nice savory notes to it but I’m pretty sure this one put me over the edge and helped me decide to walk home barefoot from the restaurant. — 7 years ago

Fino Capataz Solera de la Casa Montilla-Moriles Pedro Ximénez

Very old fino by a historic Montilla producer - with about 12 years of aging under flor in the solera system. Intense nose. Full-bodied, rounder than most Finos from Jerez (made with Pedro Ximenez, instead of Palomino) — 3 years ago

Pedro Ximenez de Añada 2014

Lovely coffee, praline, honey and liquid date and prune in great balance with considerable sweetness. It is just a bit shy of the acidity needed to carry the weight of this sweetness but a lovely wine that glides on the palate — 6 years ago

3 Miradas Vino de Pueblo Sierras de Montilla Pedro Ximénez 2015

100% Pedro Ximenez from several plots in Riofrio Alto and Cerro Macho in Montilla, aged under flor for about 8 months. Clean, precise nose with hints of rubber (surprisingly reminiscent of Riesling). Dry, mineral, citrus and melon on the palate. Good acidity — 4 years ago

Moriles S.V. Pedro Ximénez

Green and yellow apple, big salinity, salty bread dough yeastiness, ocean sea shell/ wet rocks. Pungent white florality + almost celery vegetal, bitter component. Almost a carmel candy thing going on.

Fades to this like salty creamy green apple saltwater taffy.

Big acid. Not bad. Unique. Like Manzanilla but with a bit of full bodied Carmel/toast or taffy creeping in.

I don't put my nose in it and think dang that's incredible, but every sip has me coming back for another.

Medium Dry Sherry

Of the entire Alvear range, this one is most unlike the others. Savory like the Fino, but with far less acidity and saltiness, more linear on the palate and not nearly the weight or concentration of the solera range. Basically an Amontillado done in a faster process. Floral and delicate. Orange peel, herbal tea, mulling spice. Tastes like Christmas minus the pine resin. — 7 years ago
