The history of Freemark Abbey began in 1886, when Josephine Marlin Tychson became the first woman to build and operate a winery in California. The historic site where Josephine's winery, Tychson Cellars, once stood is now known as Freemark Abbey. A blend of 83.4% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9.2% Merlot, 4.4% Malbec, & 3% Petit Verdot, dark red with dark berry fruit aromas. On the palate cherry and blackberry flavors with bits of leather, cacao and oak notes. Tannins are soft and balanced with acidity. Nice. — 9 years ago

I always enjoy this wine. This is another good year. There are a lot of things going on when you take your first sniff. Cherry, rich soil, dark fruit and more. Rich blackberry and leather mix well in your mouth and linger nicely. Super finish. — 9 years ago

Located halfway up the hill dominating principal valley of Barolo, lined by vineyards, lies a precious 15th century Abbey of Annunziata. Medium Ruby with complex aromas of berry fruits, oak and fresh floral scents. On the palate dried cherry, tobacco, licorice, espresso and fresh herbs give this full-body wine grace and elegance. Soft fine dusty tannins, with earthy notes, on a well balanced frame makes this hot vintage wine approachable today as well as have room to run over the next decade. Very Nice! — 4 years ago

Had this about 10 months ago, still very nice. Located halfway up the hill dominating the principal valley of Barolo, supported by steep slopes lined by orderly vineyards, lies the 15th century Abbey of Annunziata. Dark Ruby with ripe berry fruits and pepper spice. On the palate cherry and strawberry, some spice, well balanced with savory chewy tannins on a medium finish ending with mineral notes. Great value. Nice Pinot perfume showing some cherry notes with stalky whole bunch characters. Donut on the middle palate with a slightly tannic finish. M- Intensity. Certainly shows as a Yarra Valley Pinot with a % of whole bunch. — 9 years ago

Similar to the Kongsgaard, this wine that @Bill Makens brought didn't do much for the table...at first. Nose and palate were fairly one dimensional...lots of raspberries. About two to three hours later, this improved significantly. I believe this is dominant merlot, so I was a bit surprised it took so long, but it came on strong at the end. Rounded the flavor profile out with some black pepper and plums. — 9 years ago
