The wine is dark, as in black. It's savory, the nose. There is dark fruit, yes - plums, blackberries, etc. But there are black olives and dirt and rocks and licorice and spices all competing for attention. The palate brings a smooth mouthful of minerals and acidity to the taste buds. It’s a deep and moody wine that “will not be ignored” and calls for similar food to be paired with it. Lamb chops are recommended, and I’ll go with that. — 10 years ago
The nose gives off a telltale funk, belying the Syrah, especially after a few days open. The fruit is dark and moody and there are notes of spice and a sweet smell, like burnt caramel, on the nose. The sip is powerful, belligerent fruit and brawny tannins, so don’t be shy. Cook a big, dirty steak and throw it on a plate next to a glass of this. — 10 years ago
A dark and moody red color. Young and barely ripe fruit (strawberry?) giving way to tobacco-y, mineral-y notes swirling around a vegetal earthiness. Dirty tasting in the finish but no complaints here. — 11 years ago
Moody copper gold in color. Wonderfully mature, botrytis infused, sugar-coated pecans, salty caramel, cookie dough, dried guava, cappuccino cream, cured ham. Did I say it's very complex!? Really love the balance and mixture of full-throttle sweetness and mouthwatering savoury, hearty elements. Beautiful wine to sip and contemplate on this perfect Indian-Summer-Sunday.... — 12 years ago
I could see me, to the background tune of The Moody Blues' Had To Fall In Love, cradling this bottle at sunset on a desolate beach for a blissful stroll. Pairs perfectly with The Moody Blues' Had to Fall in Love...and the drunken music videosplaying back in your mind. — 8 years ago
This was a deliscious bottle. Dark, moody, smokey. So good. — 10 years ago
2013. In a weird phase. Still pretty to drink but a little out of whack. This vintage for this label has always been a little moody. — 10 years ago

Nice wine that we had at the Moody Stewart's for New Years 2016. — 11 years ago
Luscious red fruit, very savoury, very structured. Moody. Very complete wine!

Moody and dark. High octane Barbera, black fruit, plums, balsamico and oak. Lacking acidity which ought to keep it fresh and bright. Maybe some more cellar time will help unravel all this density and balance it out... 89-ish — 12 years ago

Brooding and moody - waves of unorganized and brash flavors ebb and flow. Roses, leather, prunes, violets, tar, dried figs, and dark chocolate. Decanted two hours, could use more. The fruit finally showed fifteen minutes into the third hour; all red and dried. Just DOC, but worth the mid $20s tag. — 10 years ago
Light and Fruity!! Smooth finish! — 10 years ago

Birthday mania! — 12 years ago
I have a lot of love for this wine. It's just a very drinkable orange wine. It has this ongoing moody 'nose vs. mouth' thing.. like brother and sister.. It's character overhaul for every degree (up or down) in temp is an experience in itself. From overly drinkable Cider-like, to tannic and almost Nebbiolo-like fruit/tart in less than 10 degrees. — 13 years ago
Awe Some
The sub $20 pinot world is a shambolic minefield filled with jack and the giant like flavors... 30ft tall cherry stems and tsunamis of sour apple, skin and rind. This is *not* that. Perhaps credit the Mendocino bones, but it has lovely notes of chalk and new leather. It's hard to fully escape the sweet-n-sour cherry at this price point and availability, but it doesn't lead with that. A moody, not bright, feel. So much better than what you usually get to choose from at this price. — 8 years ago
