A definite go to selection. Sneak away date night while serving as “Ride Share Dad” for the teens. Just blessed to have a beautiful coach/life partner sitting across from me. Back to the wine...smooth, jammy, fruit forward, and velvety. — 5 years ago
Sneak peaking on Wittmanns 2019 for the Morstein launching on thursday. There is no doubt that the German Rieslings remains one of the under priced gems of the wine world.
The Westhofener presents a pronounced intense nose, youthful but complex and nuanced aromas, well defined characters that is playing in several clusters. Lemon zest, white pears and plum juice followed by ginger and a prominent wet stone minerality over a savoury and salty canvas. A cut through acidity drives the palate through an intense fruit profile and a solid finish.
Paired with pan fried Salomon filet, creamed cabbage and a soy and brown butter vinaigrette with plenty of lemon juice. — 5 years ago
After hearing about this producer and their wines, I wanted a sneak peek at the rosé before I open the red. From the island of Sardinia, made from 100% Cannanou (Grenache).
Deep pink in color with an orange hue. Not sure if skin contact was prioritized, but color (and texture) lead me to believe so. Plenty of floral notes that give way to spiced strawberries, blood orange, and juicy nectarine. Medium bodied on the palate with plenty of flavor (but the fruit isn’t overly ripe)…there is a mineral-underripe peachy profile at the finish with some grip. Texture and acidity on point.
Reminds me of a Tavel style but with a fleshier/more tangy profile (or Pinea’s Korde from Spain). Unique, interesting, and worth trying again. — 8 months ago
Had to try early, will look forward to a more mature version 2028, but an amazing preview of what’s to come. — 5 years ago
Beautiful balance of bright sour cherry and the deeper golden raisin flavors. Great tannin structure and some tan soil terroir notes give the fruit depth. The nose is a lively preview. Definitely shines at cellar temps — don’t let this one get to room temp or the alcohol gets too hot (at 15.5% that’s bound to happen). Drinking great 7 years in. — 6 years ago
Not for the timid if an in-your-face Cab Franc is one’s introduction to the varietal. That said, a few put away in the cellar will bring much joy down the road. At the moment the wine is defined by dark berries, orange peel, green pepper and yes, even herbes de Provence. Crazy, I know. While a Fleurie and Limniona will bookend tomorrow’s Thanksgiving meal, a sneak pour of this Cab Franc is all but guaranteed. Can’t wait! 🦃🇺🇸🦃 — 2 years ago
Another one from a perfect cellar I just purchased. Cork in perfect shape. Wine is a beautiful example of aged gigondas. Almost Bordeaux like to start then some soil’y Loire quality and now it’s almost barolo like with deep ripe red fruits, iodine and smoked earth. Really lovely. Hit me up for a preview on this cellar. Prices are stupid good as the wines are premium examples of stuff you just can’t find — 5 years ago

A 25 year old gem pulled by Joel Peterson himself. I was one of the lucky ones to snag a mixed case of his cellar selections from 1991-2013 for BD16. Still going strong with such incredibile fruit. Gonna share them of course but sneak a Coravin taste here and there … — 8 months ago
