Lots of promise here even at 17 years of age. Still tight upon decanting but good mouthfeel and the fruit is very much present. The tannins have certainly subsided but the acidity is still quite high. I suspect a couple of hours from now it will have settled down considerably. Certainly a special wine. — 6 years ago
Creamy, lingering spice and smoke. An excellent malt. — 8 years ago
See many previous notes. Holding up comfortably from this excellent cooler vintage . 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Shiraz. I am lucky to have 6 bottles left from back in the day when I bought 2 dozen. Definitely drinking on the plateau and will carry on for a while yet. Medium weight palate but with great length and persistence. Will probably consume the rest over the next 3 to 4 years. In hills of Paso Robles, not far from Hearst castle, there is a man with a Homeric vision. His name is Daniel Daou and he is devoting his life to creating outstanding Cabernet’s. Deep red with dark berry nose, aged for 11 months on French oak (60% new). On the palate blackberry, black cherry and licorice, pepper spice with savory fine tannins. Medium+ finish ending with cacao and earthy herbs. Great value. The ‘17 is a bit richer than ‘16. Tasting Sample. — 7 years ago
#dfwe2018 — 7 years ago

Drank 10/19/17. Tasting pour.
Nose of black fruits, violets, and cocoa. Plums and black currant on the palate, still with tannins that are quite firm. Long finish. Drink now or age another 5-10 years.

Dark ruby in color with a short purple rim.
Fruity nose of blackberries, sweet cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, cloves, herbs, spices, dark chocolates, coffee, peppercorn, earth and pencil lead.
Full bodied with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry and fruity on the palate with blackberries, black cherries, raisins, vanilla, oak, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco, mocha, coke, earth, light vegetables, pencil lead and peppercorn.
Nice length on the finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.
This Washington State Cabernet Sauvignon is always enjoyable. Drinking nicely now as a 3 years old.
Fruit forward with nice balance. Showing mild complexity with a nice mouthfeel.
Wine Enthusiasts 90 points.
Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up and shows the tannins (45 minutes).
Nice enough to drink by itself, but pairs nicely with food too.
14.5% alcohol by volume.
89 points.

Killer Wine Night. Lineup of 17 wines. Tasted blind. Theme was Old World Killer “B” (the letter “B” has to be the first letter in one of the proper nouns in the wine e.g., region, varietal, type, winery name, etc.)
Wine 15. dark chocolate nose. Lot of tannins. Espresso. Velvety. — 8 years ago

Day five on the cruise and this night at Giovanni's Table, the Italian restaurant, aboard the Allure of the Seas. We decided to open up two South African beauties for this.
Deep ruby red with a slight garnet hue on the edges. Layered nose with dark cocoa, floral notes, dark berries and spices. Some classic 'South African' chalk as well. Medium plus tannins (6.5/10) and medium plus to full bodied. Dusty dark black cherries on the attack with some black currants, dark spices, a touch earthy, vanilla and some nutmeg. Seems quite restrained and reserved but well integrated as well. Dry and long finish. Drink till 2037.
Third time trying this limited bottling by De Toren Private Cellars with only 1,132 bottles produced in the 2013 vintage. This wine is made through the use of extreme winemaking techniques such as extreme cropping, extensive hand sorting, 200% new French oak for a total of 18 months and unfiltered. You are probably wondering how it can be 200%? This is done by aging the wine in 100% new French oak barrels for twelve months before transferring them to another set of 100% new French oak barrels for six additional months. — 9 years ago
