This wine is colored dark purple, almost inky. The nose is wonderful, with an earthiness leading the way for plum, cherry and tar. The palate is loaded with dark fruit, earth and black pepper. The tannins are fairly smooth, but they work well against a Bolognese sauce. There is a nice acidity and a wonderful herbal finish.

Sipping Fine Wine

In 1877, Illario and Leopoldo Ruffino laid the foundations of their dream to make Italian wines from the heart of Tuscany. Medium Ruby with aromas of dark berry fruit and earthy spice. On the palate black cherry, blackberry and plum flavors with tobacco, pepper and earthy cedar notes. Full-bodied, well balanced soft drying tannins on a smooth medium+ finish. Grab some Italian food and enjoy the great value wine.

Soft cherries and raspberries upfront. A quick burst of dry dusty fruit in the middle. Then soft tannins at the back.

Pretty reasonable Chianti. Blend of Sangiovese (80%) and Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot (20%). Medium ruby color with garnet highlights. Nose features dark cherries, violets, earth and plums. Dark berry fruit leads the pallet along with hints of tobacco, baking spices and a touch of menthol. Very fine tannins. Vibrant acidity, nice balance and silky mouthfeel due to the addition of Bordeaux varietals.

Taste kind of flat. No real body to it.. lots of tannin with a bitter after taste for me

Upon opening the bottle the nose is of violets, flint and sweet tobacco. The palate is dry with cherry and strawberries with quite a lot of grip on the finish. Has a leathery finish with a touch of vanilla but very faint. You can taste the alcohol and I feel it could be better integrated. A little hollow on the mid palate and finish but the acid is well balanced.
