"Cuvée Corcelette" Morgon Gamay

A weeknight dinner w friends & what a gift they brought: one of my favorite producers. What is surprising is how soft & approachable this is compared to, let’s say, a Lapierre Morgon from same vintage. Still, rather closed on nose, with a porous forest floor & red currant compote, but with muted acidity. It’s still delicious, but a few ticks away from infanticide.

No real notes, sharing this with my friend who came over from france and who, incidentally, lives in lyon, next-door to beaujolais. Cherry, cherry liqueur, earth, hay, violet, this is pinotesque with some more fruit. The palate shows acid drive, cherry, cherry cola, some width, some matter, some tannins in the rear. The cherry,.cherry liqueur and violet finish lasts for a very long while. This is superb and could probably last for another 10 15 years.

what a treat — young but vibrant with tartness, body, and earthy verve.

Dec 2nd, 2022The least Beaujolais-like of the lineup, but in a good way. I’d call it 1er cru cote de Beaune, maybe Savigny. Extremely balanced, it’s an equilibrium between intense red fruit and pretty florals, violets and lilies. The palate is so delicate, pretty tannins and delicate fruit. Zero funk
