Time for #MerlotThursday... 😃

Dark purple in color with a purplish rim.

Fruity nose of blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, cedar, chocolates, tobacco, mocha, coke, earth, light vegetables, pencil lead and peppercorn.

Full bodied, bold and smooth, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, bell pepper, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices, chocolates, smoke, eucalyptus, peppercorn, earth and black tea.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a great Merlot from Napa Valley. Showing nice complexity and a great mouthfeel. Rich and smooth. Well balanced and enjoyable by itself or with food.

I loved the nose here, and kept on smelling on it for a while. This is a Merlot for the Cabernet lover, with teeth staining color.

Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up and shows some tannins. (60 minutes).

I paired it with a charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.

A blend of 88% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. Aged for 15 months in 25% new French Oak barrels.

Drank from a half a bottle. Delicious and yummy.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$55.

Disappointing. This is overpriced but mediocre Napa Merlot.

Founded in 1976, Duckhorn was one of the first wineries to pioneer Merlot as a premium varietal, now makes several stylish Merlots. Big red berry aromas with oak and spice. Plum and black cherry, almost chewy, with sweet cedar and fresh spice flavors. Well balanced with savory tannins, lingering with an ending that highlights the fruit. Very nice!

Duckhorn appear to be making a comeback, albeit rather slowly. Good merlot from a great vintage. Good grip, structure, and solid presentation.

Leaving the “when and where I enter” Spelman ceremony full of emotions. My big girl safely and excitedly in her village poised to be a force to reckon with. Now at dinner with the wifey and a perfect vino. A definite 9+. Notes of Napa on the nose with a smooth, velvety fruit forward presentation. Can’t believe we get a 10yr old delicious wine tonight. Definitely loving it…my company..an DB the reason we are here in the A.
