92-93 for me.

Consumed half bottle at pop, then corked for another 4hrs before consuming the rest. No change.

What a beautifully elegant and refined ‘09. The highest compliment I can give this is that it was a simplistic joy. Some wines make it easy to get nerdy and command your attention…some wines are underwhelming and not worth your time. This was squarely in the middle. It was a joy to not feel the need to overthink…it’s exactly what it should be. No bricking at almost 15yrs. Decidedly black fruit heavy (black currant, cassis, underripe blackberries) with a sprinkling of raspberries and black cherries. Aromas of sweet pipe tobacco, dark florals. Integrated on the palate with good structure and acidity…not a massive wine, but it put on a bit of weight/length the longer it was open. Still sporting a fair bit of tannin at the finish, but it’s balanced. Drink or hold.

Vintage 2009 | Classic Haut Medoc. Black colour 3/4 transparant. Autumn, leather, laurel in smell. Ripe summerfruit. Taste that has power, soft tannins, gets more velvety in the glass. Impressions of chocolate. Lovely. Paired with Guinea fowl, gnocchi, celeriac and truffle.

Vintage 2009 | Deep colour. Smell with tobacco, leather and chocolate. Still tannins, that do not bother with food. Harmonious wine. Paired with petite tender, red chicory, from the grill and mushrooms.

Somewhat of a mess. Ripe year coupled with significant brett. Nose and palate completely clipped short. One dimensional and finish fell flat, metallic. Don’t always hate ripe vintage Bdx or Cantemerle, but this was not doing it.

Vintage 2009 cedar laurel more spicyness than fruit, severe in a pleasant way, distinguished wine. Rich.

Sipping Fine Wine

Located in the communes of Macau and Ludon, Chateau Cantemerle, designated a great growth in the famous 1855 classification, has deep fine gravel soil. A blend of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot and 6% Cabernet Franc. Black fruit aromas with spicy notes. On the palate dark berry flavors, a touch of pepper on smooth fine tannins. Long finish, well structured on a fresh ending. Needs decanting or a few more years in the cellar. Tasting Sample.

yummy currant & raspberry, floral & lead pencil nose ~ plush & crushed soft sensation juxtaposed by an angular tart/ripeness ~ like to see how that pans out...

Generous blackcurrant and cigar box with some garden herby notes, fantastic structure with a full life ahead. Enjoyed with local grass/fed moo!
