Banfi seldom disappoints. The 2012 is refined and savory. Tannins are silky yet grippy and the acidity is stark so with age it will develop. Vanilla and dark chocolate aromas and flavors with a bit of wet soil/dried mushroom. Nicely complex.

scored a split on closeout and it was tasty! probably just starting its gentle decline w/some musty oxidative aromas, but it also had engaging smoke & spice, worn leather, sour cherry, red currant, hint of vanilla & cocoa, sweet soil and other earth driven elements. med bodied, well worn tannins and some acidity presented a fairly balanced palate. usually priced out of Brunello so this was a treat!

Pop and pour (can’t be helped, it’s a restaurant).
NOSE: smells like a ruby port. cherry, licorice, varnish, grapes, prunes, blueberries.
TASTE: almost like a port! But not sweet. Distinct raisins. Also blueberry. Nice drying, coffee-like tannins. Overripe pomegranate. Vanilla. This is delicious. 92.
