Dependably enjoyable #grandcruchampagne 2012: yeasty nose, laid back citrus and some wet stone aromas. Still vigorous fine bubbles on the palate, nicely balanced but definitely tending towards very dry. Paired marvelously with a lentil soup starter and Cacio e Pepe rigatoni with sautéed shrimp dining al fresco (BYOB with reasonable corkage fee FTW!) on a relatively pleasant early summer evening in Houston. I recently celebrated my 1 year anniversary as a #smallbusinessowner (and no it’s not a wine/blogging business, this girl has other skills 😜). Naturally I had to sabre the top off a #GrandCru champagne. It’d be rude not to when your business name is @grandcrudigital right?

Definitely an intentional business name decision right there 🍾🍾

We picked up this bottle of @champagnejeanmilan Symphorine 2010 Blanc de Blancs Brut at @aucklandairport duty free for about $100.

‘Grand Cru’ translates to ‘great growth’ and it’s a term used in #Champagne (and Burgundy) to distinguish the best vineyards.

And #BlancdeBlancs means it’s made of only white grapes. Which in this case is #Chardonnay.

It was the perfect tipple to celebrate my 1 year as a biz owner anniversary. I think we had it alongside a very un-classy bbq dinner 😂

In the glass I found it a lemon-lime colour. Immediately as soon as I sniffed it I got a lovely lemon zest scent, with hints of musk candies, floral perfumes, and spiced apple - a fantastically complex and interesting nose! While in the mouth it has tons of juicy acidity that made me think of lemon juice squeezed over apples with a side of cashew crackers and a refreshing finish. Yumo! I’d by this Grand Cru again - maybe for my 13 month anniversary 😉

Lemon seed, lemon oil, grape leaf, sage and lime nose, orange, lemon and lime pith entry is pronounced then softens to zest then ethereally creamy dichotomy astounds. Lightest white pepper that strikes a longing posture on infinite legs.

Lime, lemon pith, chive, coconut water and cucumber freshness with a frozen sage leaf purity and rainy day aromas. Massive entry with bright lemon juice tempered by tartar biscuit, then overwhelmed by lime and orange zest, grapefruit whiteness, starfruit, gooseberry and chalky, racy, steely minerality that texturizes the whole as it rockets across the tongue, white pepper bobs in the citric river that flows endlessly beyond each sip. Incredible resonance! .

Pale gold. Interplay of cultured cream and papaya with lemon, golden apple and tea rose follow through. Specks of lime scent swirl, discombobulated in the frozen, underripe pineapple expanse. Toasty frame drops quickly in a lemon and lime juice flume made of sterling silver. Kafir leaves in lightest brine add a minerality that defines the space including a real suggestion of white pepper on the finish. Despite the description, this is not overly racy, instead, relying on its needles and pins to deliver the concentrated citric doses with precision. Finely ground chalk and salt rock it’s high mark. .
