Found this in my cellar and it was a nice surprise. 7 years ago I rated this 90 with no notes. This is so much better than that now. I wish I was better at notes. Tonight, this has Napa Style but also old world complexity. There is black fruit, spice, coffee, flint, cigar box, toast, and what I’m gonna call loam on the nose. The mouthfeel is fantastic. It coats your mouth in a Napa way without being round or intrusive. Black plum, molasses, blackberry, and the tannins are well positioned. Still grippy but not pronounced. Love this.
Shame on me for drinking before 10 years. — 20 days ago
I love this producer (we actually got engaged here) and the recent fire sale was an opportunity to pick up quite a few back vintages of what I’d call their previous style for incredibly low prices. Let’s not get into how that made me feel about being a member for quite a long time and paying much more, but I do understand it from the perspective that their library size and go to market strategy of previous owner didn’t quite add up. Anyway, this bottle was a little tired and didn’t hold up as well as some of the older vintages I’ve had. Still had good fruit, balance but structure and tension wasn’t what it is on other vintages. I haven’t had any from the new group. I hope they find the soul of this appellation and place.

Family vacation on North Shore Lake Superior. View from our place is outstanding. Wine is great too! Not rating as I’m popping this youngster to get a baseline for the six pack and figure out if I’m gonna get more.
Adding comments - this is drinkable now. It’s not closed, tannic, or out of balance. BUT, it does feel more simple than what lies underneath. I’d say give it 5 years before trying and 15 years until prime time. I’ve recently had the ‘09 and ‘10. They were two of my favorites in some time and I think they were just getting into drinking window. — 2 days ago
