Splendid! Black fig, crushed overripe blackberry, roasted black plums, stones, singed herbs de Provence, tar, tobacco, powdered sugar, floral, subtle asian spices. The whole cluster element perfectly in line with the wine, bringing lift and depth, almost highlighting the wines other dimensions. Solar, quite fresh, tannins have melted into this silky beauty. Perfect with fig and sausage stuffed quail, farro verde, favas and garden veggies — 5 years ago
The 2016 Syrah Sonoma-Hillsides has been nothing less than stunning on the three occasions I have tasted it so far. A wine of extraordinary purity and depth, the 2016 dazzles from the very first taste. The richness and power are simply breathtaking. Bacon fat, smoke, grilled herb and lavender are woven into a graceful, seamless core of inky blue/purplish fruit. Even with all of its intensity, the 2016 remains remarkably light on its feet. The Sonoma-Hillsides is a blend of fruit from Castelli-Knight Ranch, Griffin's Lair and Walker Vine Hill, done with 100% whole clusters and aged in a combination of concrete and neutral oak, with no SO2. I am not sure how the 2016 will age, but I am also not sure it will matter, as most bottles will be long gone before that is an issue. Quite simply, the Sonoma-Hillsides is a total pleasure bomb and a modern-day benchmark for Syrah in California. Don't miss it! (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, April 2018) — 7 years ago

The whole cluster treatment shines in this big-styled PN. That said, very elegantly made — 5 years ago
Well well well, isn’t that something! Envinate Lousas Vinos de Aldea. Give it some time in the glass to unwind and expose its inner complexity, a vibrant red fruit profile, lavender and capsicum is accompanied by a pronounced savoriness with crushed rocks, soil and white pepper. A fresh spine runs through the palate with solid but fine grained grip from the tannins. Ribeira Sacra. Mostly Mencia with some other stuff thrown in (field blend), whole cluster ferment in cement tank followed by elevage in neutral barrel. A privilege to have these unicorn wines available! — 5 years ago
A Riesling with an attitude. Petrol is substituted for lavender and and thyme with a robust mouthfeels and ripping acidity. — 6 years ago
Are you decorated and ready for holiday guests? We are! Wishing you all a Happy Holiday season. ☃️🦌🎄🎁🎅🤶❄️ Cheers! 🥂
This bottle so good tonight almost a 9.4.
@Paul Treadway Huntington Beacher Bum A shout out & thanks to Paul for finding this on sale and sending it my way so I could stock up. Seeing as Jeff Bezos wouldn’t do the normal Whole Foods Wine sale in mid November. I guess short on cash this Q4? 🤷♂️ — 7 years ago
Still very youthful. A lot of whole cluster spice — 8 years ago
The most hyper-masculine wine I’ve had in a while, this is deep, dark, roasted fruit, strong coffee, cigar, roasted meat, and smoke on the nose and it doubles down in the mouth with structure you don’t expect for under $30. Not an everyday style, but interesting tonight. — 5 years ago
Candy like wine an amazingly smooth wine with a perfect balance of fruit. — 5 years ago
Whole Foods, $15
Deep burgundy color, a bit astringent on the nose but to be fair I'm reviewing this 2 days after opening. Quite dry with red fruit/cherry in the front and a very pleasant soil/mushroom earthiness. Slightly dry for my tastes but the smoothness and interesting and prominent red fruit and earthiness combination was very enjoyable. — 6 years ago
Whole Foods, watermelon, strawberry, lemon — 7 years ago
Slight hint of reduction that faded with 30 mins. Darker fruit profile than expected, considering the light color and low alcohol. 12.5%. well crafted, well balanced. Great value — 7 years ago
