Pontet Canet tasting and dinner with Alfred Tesseron.
The 96 is a nice surprise add from Clyde’s cellar. Thank you Clyde.
This 96 is beautifully floral. The evolution is right around its peak. The body is medium full and the tannins soft. It’s an elegant beauty.
The fruits are ripe and delicious. Leaner blackberries, black raspberries, dark cherries, strawberries and shades of raspberries. Soft earth; dry top soil, dry rock, limestone minerals, old tobacco, soft leather, cedar with dry and withering red & dark florals. The acidity is like a waterfall. The long finish is well balanced fruit & earth and in a sweet spot.

Excellent Riesling! Bright acidity. Dry and some citrus on the palate. — 9 years ago
2014 vintage. Honeycomb, green pear, yellow apple, honeysuckle, wet rocks. High acid at first, as is typical of the vintage, but mellows out a bit the next day. Good Merkelbach typicity. Always love these guys and their elegantly restrained style. — 10 years ago
Can't get enough of the nose: pineapple, peach, and overly ripe clementines. Flint pushing back on the fruit and lively acid structure. Truly pleasurable. — 10 years ago
Great vintage quality to a non vintage champagne. Very smooth and not effervescent but Brut start. — 11 years ago
A beautifully aged riesling. Very gentile, bright fruit aromas that grow over time. Striking acidity is balanced by just a little remaining residual sugar. Flavors of citrus fruit with lots of minerality. Medium, gentile finish. — 12 years ago
This is awesome ! One of the best champagnes I’ve ever tasted — 7 years ago
Joyous Mosel to celebrate the first signs of spring — 7 years ago
At the 12th year since the wine was born, this gold cap doesn’t taste like an old Riesling at all. Yet, it doesn’t have the fresh tropical fruit punch experienced from the 2007 version. All that being said, this wine distinguished itself as a delicate artwork. It is a pristine raisin nectar bomb. It is so balanced, so precise, so tender, yet so concentrated. Everything, sweetness, acidity, and minerality have been integrated beautiful together over the years. This wine reminds me of how good a sweet Riesling can be without sticky viscosity. Serve closer to room temperature. — 8 years ago

Mature flavors of roasted cashews and hazelnuts. With some salty, Sherry-like elements too. Excellent eye-opener with the full Easter brunch spread — 10 years ago

Green apple, tangerine, and lemon zest with good acidity and hints of mineral. My husband loved it! — 6 years ago
Last weekend turned out to be a 2011 extravaganza and thankfully, a rather pleasant one. Not my favourite vintage in Europe, with the Mosel churning out many wines that could occupy higher pradikat levels than stated. Nevertheless, the best examples had a ripe delicacy, showing lightness and freshness within the opulence. That was just exactly what the Prum GK portrayed - rich and earthy notes wrapped in crackling acidity. Pure aromas of mango, peach, orange, fresh quince, and cream, with a light honey note and lovely floral qualities. The palate manages to remain very juicy, despite the ripeness and botrytis. Immense weight and finish, as expected of a GK. Complains? I felt the botrytized notes could have come off a little cleaner on the palate. There is slightly too much musky-savoury element, although it does not disrupt the freshness of the wine. MO also detected a slight bitterness in the finish and she felt the minerality could be more pronounced, both points I don't really agree with but hey... she's got a better palate than me. — 7 years ago

Seemed more expressive than same wine, different bottle consumed about 6 weeks ago with flashes of honeyed character. — 10 years ago
Yeehaaa! Don't try this or you'll get KaJo-addicted! Wonderful fresh and elegant style. Nearly impossible for me to correctly assess the vintage of wines from this winery. You always estimate too young. — 10 years ago

This is a thing around here these days. That's cool though. Anytime fellas. Anytime. — 11 years ago
Wow wow wow and WOW! I just love these wines! Absolute dynamite intensity, palate weight and carry. Baked apples, Lemmon curd and a beautiful acid carry. One of my all time favourite wines. HAPPY BOY! — 11 years ago
On the nose: blossomy and full, with notes of white melon, golden delicious apple, and a faint minerality. On the tongue: semi-dry and grapey, with plenty of honey and a little nuttiness to boot. Goes down almost too easily!!! — 12 years ago
