Remarkable Langhe Nebbiolo from Cavalotto that would outshine most Barolos in terms of quality. To young but there is no denying of its inherent quality. Classical in its approach with a high concentration of red slightly tart fruit, roses, smoke, spice and stones with a slight volatile finish. High acidity and gum coating tannins dominate the palate, strong mid palate and a long finish. An impressive invitation to Cavalottos arsenal. From younger vines in the Barolo zone, 20-35 days submerged cap maceration with 15-18 months in Slavonian casks. — 6 years ago
Quality check on Le Raganie Brunello di Montalcino 2013 and what a showstopper, starting off a bit shy but evolves into a layered complexity with plenty of finesse, with four hours in the decanter its hard to raise your nose from the glass. Red, very vibrant fruit is backed up by dried spices and pronounced but balanced savoury complexity of forrest floor and crushed stones. A subtle volatile lift brings further complexity. Fresh palate with, fine grained tannins and a tactile sensation that brings the wine throughout its long finish. Not Brunello, its a trademark Ragnaie! — 7 years ago
A touch volatile, which is to be expected in riper vintages like 2009 and 2015 from Producers who use less/minimal SO2. Rich, dense fruit, large scale and heavier than I prefer, and surely showing alcohol. A crowd pleasing vintage, but, again, lacking the freshness and cut I prefer. — 8 years ago

2021/4. This was back to its wonderful self after the slightly volatile 2017 - lots of earthy cherry fruit — 5 years ago
The aroma is similar to Azelia, authentic and pure, but missing some bass components. It even shows some natural wine tendencies, slightly volatile and gassy, which settles down quickly. The structure lacks the authority and the weight but it scores high in transparency and dynamics. It will not challenge the supremacy of Conternos, Mascarellos and Odderos because its aroma is less complex and powerful, but its structure is built on radically different geometry, which makes it very exciting. There is also a Burgundian sense of mastery of texture, and distinctiveness of aroma that separates it from more pedestrian Barolo’s. Also worth noting that while it shows the authentic character of Barolo it does not forego a strong individuality of the winemaker. — 6 years ago

Very intense golden color with green tendencies. Very volatile sweet notes. Incredibly long and smooth in mouth. — 8 years ago
Wide, round, cidery, a bit of spritz, quite complexly volatile. Dryish, salty. New for me: no sulfur added Mosel Riesling — 9 years ago
2021/5/3-4 with Ningbo stewed pork with red fermented tofu and yakitori, itadori and mayonnaise, warabi and takenoko yaki onigiri. I was both curious and nervous about this considering my experience with the Montestefano. This also started out a bit ponderous and volatile, but on the second day it had calmed into a nice, bitter cherry dolcetto. — 5 years ago
I'm not sure what I want to say about this wine... Funky Brett, but not volatile acid to speak of, slight in bottle effervescence that is a flaw but also works. Only had a small glass, need a full bottle for a more accurate score. — 8 years ago

Well this has come a long way in a year and a half. Opens with a blast of flowers and fruit. Roses and lilac. Really crazy perfume, so unique for pinot noir. Don’t know how this manages to be so consistently high wire, flirting with serious volatile acidity, yet maintaining such balance and cleanness. Florals just open more and more with time, with notes of porcini and savage spice; cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, cardamom. — 5 years ago
