Domaine Coillot

La Charme aux Prêtres Marsannay Pinot Noir 2018

Established in the village of Marsannay in the 1960's by Bernard Coillot, father of owner Christophe Coillot. Deep Ruby red color with aromas of berry fruit and gentle spice. On the palate flavors of cherry and blackberry with notes of fig, mushroom and spice. Fine soft tannins, long finish ending with fruit, spice and earthy mineral character. Nice! — 2 years ago

Domaine Coche-Dury (J.F. Coche Dury)

Meursault Chardonnay 2006

Needs about a hour for the reductive quality to blow off. Very flinty, ginger, hay, and strong citrus nose. Similar to previous notes, aroma was more impressive than palate, but can't complain for a village! — 8 years ago

Ravines Wine Cellars

Keuka Village White Blend 2016

Friday night random whites...
Fresh, clean and refreshing, light White peach notes. Nose is attractive, but a little too cold on first taste, so slightly closed initially.
Off-dry blend of NY's Finger Lakes region Cayuga & Vignoles, nose is really opening up nicely with some air and warming of the wine in the glass. Not overly complex, but this is a solid buy for the $10/$13 (wine club/retail) price.

Domaine Leroy

Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2015

Previous 2 bottles have had evidence of Brett. The Brett more noticeable on the nose than the palate. Still very drinkable - remember, it is Leroy. The following night the Brett much less noticeable. More savoury than fruit driven - a lovely texture and mouthfeel. All in all a good Village Bourgogne if not overpriced. — 3 years ago

Moussé Fils

Les Vignes de Mon Village Blanc de Meuniers Champagne Pinot Meunier

Pale bronze with effusive perlage and creaminess. The nose is simply gorgeous with red and green apples and almonds. Freshly toasted brioche bread with a dollop of cinnamon butter. Greenery and fresh red fruits. Stunning. I could just smell this for so long but I suppose I should taste it as well.

Pure Meunier from Cuisles. Disgorged in October of 2021 with no dosage. Terrific balance and structure here, as is the norm for all Moussé champagnes. From a perpetual reserve of wines that makes such a huge difference. The depth here is atypical.

Electric in the mouth. Great length. Minerality and purity on the tongue. A bit of citrus on first taste. Then the spice and fruit come in to play. Whenever I taste this I always think it’s my favorite Moussé champagne. And that’s saying a lot.

Gevrey-Chambertin Pinot Noir

Dark ruby color with aromas of cherry, raspberry, and licorice. Ripe red fruits on the palate with good acidity, fine grained tannins, and good length. A very nice village level bottling. $120. — 7 years ago

Tenuta Sette Ponti

Crognolo Toscana Super Tuscan Blend 2011

My last 2011 bottle. The estate of Sette Ponti lies in the heart of the Chianti zone, 15 miles northwest of the city of Arezzo, past the village of San Giustino Valdarno. Crognolo, aged in French Allier barriques, deep red with red fruit aromas and sweet perfumed spice. On the palate raspberry and cherry flavors, gentle spice and soft tannins with great mouthfeel. Good balance, lingering finish ending with some oak and mineral tones. Aged well. — 8 years ago

Domaine Denis Mortet

Mes Cinq Terroirs Gevrey-Chambertin Pinot Noir 2015

2015 vintage at home. Super star effort on a village wine. Young vines, can’t wait to drink this when the vines are old. So difficult to get this domaine, so good and only six bottles. Can age considerably but is round, tasty, juicy tannins and good acidity with good aging potential. Fruit bomb but with perfect definition and elegance. What a waste of a life but Arnaud has taken over and did not miss a beat. — 8 years ago
