Victoria Port

Dow's

Vintage Porto 1991

[8 hour decant] This smells and (in particular) tastes like Dow’s, the drier style of classic Vintage Port, still shows lovely fruit and depth, just not as sweet as Fonseca or Graham’s, nor as structured as Taylor’s, longish finish, very, very sneaky fine!! — 5 months ago

@Tom Casagrande @Dave — another instant posting, maybe Delectable finally fixed the delay? If so, kudos to Vinous for doing so!!!

@Doug Powers - Hey! Me too! Just posted a backlog of notes and they popped right up on my feed! Maybe they’re actually addressing the issues? Fingers crossed.

Curly Flat

Pinot Noir 2017

It’s been a while between Curly pinots. Always a joy to open one, with fond memories attached along with the pleasure of the wine itself. Despite five years from vintage, this is still young and stern but elegant. Clear lines and structure, a spicy, cedary top note amongst red fruit and firm but soft tannins. Clean, I’d call it, plus whole bunch characters. Quality pinot undoubtedly, that should improve even more. — 4 years ago

Fonseca

Guimaraens Vintage Port Blend 1991

Very enjoyable, with a lot going on. Loaded with blackberry and dark fruits, along with violet, licorice, spice, and floral notes. A nice long finish to round it out. This was a 375 ml bottle and cost $16.99 back in the day—hard to argue with that value.
I still have some older Vintage Ports resting in the cellar and will get to them in due time—no rush. NYE dinner at Anthony’s in HH was a great way to cap it off.

Giant Steps

Applejack Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017

Mid to pale crimson - actually transparent. The pale colour belies the aromatic and palate intensity. Aromatics of cherry and raspberry transforming on to the medium bodied sweet red fruited palate. A touch of Sous Bois. An excellent Pinot as always from the Applejack Vineyard from Giant Steps. — 6 months ago

My 2nd favorite 20 yr behind Grahams. Ramos Pinto is good as well, but seems to have to bottle to bottle variability issues…. Taylor is a great standby at a good price. — 5 years ago
