Nose is not the best I'll admit. Dominated by a green note that won't go away and only got stronger. Under that is a nice nuttiness and some good spice and cherry fruit, but the green vegetal quality is overwhelming. Palate is great though. Light and ephemeral, sappy and delicate. Established in 1861 as the first winery in the Napa Valley by Prussian-born Charles Krug. Today the winery remains under the stewardship of the Peter Mondavi Sr Family, who purchased the historic winery in 1943. A blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot, 1% Merlot, dark red with ripe dark berry scents and sweet spice. On the palate sweet blackberry and cherry flavors with leather and cacao notes. Firm tannins are a bit tight but opened up by the time the bottle was empty. — 9 years ago

Had to open another bottle as the tannic structure in the last one was so striking. Decanted for the bulk of the day as this was tight & tannic for several hours.
