Brasserie Cantillon

Classic Gueuze Lambic 2017

Happy belated Zwanze Day! Celebrating with this 2017 bottling of Cantillon’s Classic Gueuze. Over the years, I have drifted to be a little more fond of 3 Fonteinen but I’m really splitting hairs. This is world class.

Popped and poured; crushed in 30min after doing the first yard work of 2024 and getting the hops trained to the trellis. The gueuze pours a brilliant golden color with a persistent head. On the nose, mostly tasty stone fruits: apricots, peach, kumquat, horse blanket, stony minerals. On the palate, the gueuze is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and refreshing. Drink now.

Reserve High Trellis Shiraz 2014

Deep garnet robe. Weak nose with promised bent notes of blackberries, black currants and dry wood. Sweet, berry flavour with a short finish with a hint of tannins and a warm finish from the alcohol. Lovely wine to contrast with cheese. — 8 years ago

Marchesi Biscardo

Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore Corvina Blend 2013

.......unlike some so called "Amarone" producers, who trim the canopy back to sun blister the grapes in order expedite the sugar concentration, and also trellis lower to the ground to obtain excess moisture and rapid raisination, the Biscardo family's Ripasso Superiore is a TRUE " baby Amarone". In fact.....for a fraction of the price, it is better than many of those AmaPHONY producers Amarone! — 8 years ago
