This could be the best Dominus ever surpassing the great 91 & 94 vintages. Dominus always needs time in the cellar to develop and show its Bordeaux style character but this was surprisingly approachable after a 2 hr decant showing layers of dark fruits, cassis, violets, earth, mocha and spices, densely structured with great balance and length. — 8 years ago

We drank the 1980 Chateau Montalena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon with the 1980 Carneros Creek Turnbull/Fay Cab & Truchard Cabs. All three showing very well. All three acquired at release. The Montalena is very nice. It needed 15-20+ minutes to show its best. Great cherry, raspberry fruit. Perfectly mature now. Will hold for a couple years but peaking now. Enjoy if you have any of the wine. — 8 years ago
