Sans Liege

Long Way Home Syrah 2013

Velvety, plush and deep; hints of plumb and baking spice with an almost chalky mouthfeel. Decanted for 3 hours as per the winemaker's suggestion and turned out beautifully. — 9 years ago

Silver Oak

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

This 2008 was cellared for almost five years after purchased in 2012. Consumed Nov 2015, the best way to describe this delight is that "it melts in your mouth". You do not even feel it as it goes down, the taste begins with its scents as soon as it hits your palate. Delightfully fruity with cherry, blackberry and jam. — 10 years ago

1976: Solid in every way. Derived from the classic period, before anyone had known to coin the term classic period e with regard to California wine. Great length, and pleasing at each stage. Would love to experience again. — 10 years ago

Château Cos d'Estournel

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

The biggest and most full bodied wine of the evening was the Cos d'Estournel. From the hot 2003 vintage this also made it the youngest red of the evening. Big, irony, camp fire embers, black currants and cassis, toasty and well integrated oak buffer the wine. Time has peeled back some of that concentration revealing the heat that stuck out to me as the one big thing out of place. In the context of the vintage this might be OK but it turned me off. Good, but disappointing especially considering how critics went out of their way to speak of its lack of signs of heat. — 9 years ago

Domaine Coche-Dury (J.F. Coche Dury)

Meursault Chardonnay 2010

First Coche ever. Technically perfect in every way though no particular wow factor. Similar experience over three hours. While not reductive in any fashion and oak didn't stick out, perhaps it needs more time to blossom into its legend... Stellar pricing btw and fantastic meal at Lameloise. — 9 years ago

Hundred Acre Vineyard

Ancient Way Vineyard Summer's Blocks Shiraz 2007

Big. No make that full bodied. Scratch that - let's say Voluptuous. This Shiraz made me think twice about how the Australians are making wine. How did Hundred Acre do that? Exceptional and well worth the hunt if you can find it. — 10 years ago

Pretty seamless wine. Elegant but in no way meek. Represents both the style of the Chateau and the vintage well. Red and black currants, violet florals and great length. Delightful to taste at the Chateau, while discussing winemaking with Mr. Pontallier! #margauxmoments — 10 years ago
