Côte du Py Morgon Gamay
Morgon, Beaujolais, Burgundy, France

Wine of the night and more. An incredible example of how good Morgon can be. Complexity, length, structure, and the rest.

Strawberry balsamic dominating a long, silky mouthfeel and finish. Balanced and beautiful and still could have gone longer.

It’s very enjoyable now with its supple texture, plentiful acid, sweet blackberry, dark cherry, campfire and dank earth flavors. But will hold the rest of these 2-3 more years as it has the potential to be special.

How could I drink this and not post it? I wanted to be a hater, but was happy to have a very good wine change my tune. The Rhone and Burgundy meet in this low alcohol, spicy, expensive oak kissed, dark fruited bottle. Nice with chicken and with a real future ahead of it. No waxed mustache 21 and a half year old sommelier comments...

May 22nd, 2016Sour cherries along a dusty gravel road. A bit muted. Some herbs and violet. Polished tannins, good acidity, medium plus finish. Sad to realize this might be over the hill as I have several bottles still waiting. It had such an enchanting perfume in its youth.

Last wine in our flat in Paris before relocating to Warsaw, Poland. A 10 because this wine in this vintage is probably the one I’ve had the most over the time we’ve spent here. Nose of rose petal, cherry, a bit of a humid forest soil scent too which I haven’t smelled with this one before. The palate is, as always, a model of balance with striking acids, lots of fruits (cherry, red forest berries). A light kick in the end of the palate with a nice finish with cherry and raspberry. A nice grip all along the palate. Not as wide and opulent as I recalled it but much more subtle, contemplative. I like it so much! Now I can’t wait to taste my first wine in our new flat in Warsaw!
