This dark wine offers a nose of black fruit and cassis, painted with cedar, clove and cinnamon. The very expressive aromas put me in mind of the holidays. The palate is alive with the dark berry notes and oak spice, and a monstrous set of tannins that need some decant time to soften. Don’t worry, the wine will still handle any steak you put in front of it.

Cheval des Andes tasting with their technical manager who is also an assistant winemaker. Tasted ‘05, ‘07, ‘14 and ‘15. Very cool story behind this winery (and its affiliation with Chateau Cheval Blanc).
This contained the largest percentage of Malbec they’ve ever used at 83%, rounded out by petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Decidedly darker and more dense on the mid palate than the ‘15. The texture was more plush and this seems to be open for business now...not sure it has the structure to hold as long as the ‘15. More plum, added black currant and licorice. — 6 years ago

Wonderful Argentinian Red Blend from a French producer. Malbec (60%)Syrah (20%)and Cabernet Franc (20%). Deep purple color. Aromas and flavors of chocolate and hazelnuts (Nutella), and beef jerky with a great peppery finish. (The Syrah!). Beautiful velvety texture. My new favorite Argentinian. Thank you for bringing this one, Kase! Revisited in May 2020. Still outstanding! Vanilla is more pronounced. Revisited again in January 2021. Still beautifully balanced. — 7 years ago
Classic London Dry Gin made in Edinburgh, Scotland. Far from ordinary this gin very balanced and pack with 14 botanicals. Hints of Pine Nuts, Lemongrass and a Lavender finish. Kick back with your favorite G&T mix, act like a Brit, enjoy and have another.....Excellent. — 4 years ago
Cherry, an earthy note, violet, some spices too. The palate is well designed and quite fresh, with a strong acid backbone, a beautiful cherry note all along, a good width and a soft mouthfeel. The mid palate builds up slowly and expands nicely, with a slight layer of grainy tannins. The finsih is long and fruity with a spicy note. This wine is very precise with that sheer acid drive, you can bet it was grown in high altitude from that freshness and that energy. Good one! — 4 years ago
Purple black in colour. Blueberry, Chocolate and Cocoa. Big rich ripe and concentrated with plenty of extract. Black and blue fruits - plum and blueberry on the palate. Full bodied with medium plus intensity. Generous in flavour without being too heavy. Reminiscent of Cheval des Andes in that respect. Points off for an overly heavy bottle. — 4 years ago
At the Downs Club Magnum Dinner and this was a great way to finish the evening with a Magnum of Warres VP. Just a medium ruby in colour. Typical burnt rancio notes. Resolved tannins and spirit - drinking beautifully at its peak. Drink or hold for a few more years. — 5 years ago
Great wine for the price. A very different bright citrus/ grapefruit on the nose, with a bit of chocolate, mint, eucalyptus underneath. Opens up to a distinct sage element. Easy drinking with only a moderate finish, but good flavor — 6 years ago
Tropical fruits, honey, unoaked or minimal race of it. Med plus body and acidity. — 7 years ago
Good blend of grapes, creating layers of dark red fruit complemented by hints of vanilla and mocha. More balanced than a spirit level. €10 Supervalu offer. — 8 years ago
Nice amount of oak, idk if spice is the word is for me, more of a musky goodness. Hints of guava. — 8 years ago
Perfumed nose of violets plus blue and red fruits a note of red liquorice. On the medium weight plus palate , ripe plum and chocolate. Differs from Cabernet with no herbal bay leaf characters and softer tannins in this case but persistent. This is a perfect wine to have with steak, in this case T bone. The Argentinians worked this out ages ago. One of the 1001 wines where it is summed up succinctly - The hallmark of the Catena style is refinement and balance but with a big personality. These wines supercede the Malbecs from Cahors because the vineyards are planted between 780 metres and 1500 metres in the Andes. — 4 years ago
Deep purple in color with a short purple rim.
Fruity nose of blackberries, black plums, oak, earth, vanilla, licorice, spices, chocolates, vegetables, peppercorn, tobacco, herbs, bell pepper and wet leaves.
Full bodied and bold with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry and fruity on the palate with blackberries, black currants, sweet cherries, wood, licorice, spices, dark chocolates, vanilla, coffee, vegetable, earth, leather, tobacco leaf and peppercorn.
Long finish with firm tannins and tangy raspberries.
This is a great surprise. This 8 year old Malbec is drinking very nicely now. Well balanced and enjoyable by itself or with food.
This Single Vineyard is showing nice complexity and a great mouthfeel.
Needs 4 hours in a decanter to open up properly and show tannins and all of the complexity.
This was a good vintage in Mendoza and it is showing. Very easy to drink so watch out 😁
Grapes are grown at 3,500 feet elevation, and aged for 18 months in French oak barrels.

It’s rosé season in spirit in Chicago. This is a great one. Nice balance of the acid you expect with lush fruit off the old Mourvèdre vines. Wish I had more bottles for actual warm weather. — 7 years ago
Surprisingly good Pinot noir. Good nose, with some body to it. — 8 years ago
