Beautiful wine. Super concentrated even now and a simply delicious wine. As crazy as this sounds i think it is too early to drink. I would love to try this sexy thing in 4 or 5 more years. I love it! — 9 years ago

Truly excellent. What a wine. Great drinking window and wouldn’t mind trying in 3-5 years as well. A 1998 Lignier Clos de la Roche is one of the wines that impacted me the most, and was very excited to try Ponsot. Very pure and precise but quite hedonistic. Incredibly mouth filling with a very, very long finish. Excellent balance and mouthfeel. Simply delicious. — 8 years ago

Antinori – Tignanello 2014
Toscana IGT – Italy 🇮🇹
Blend: Predominantly Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon & Cabernet Franc
Overview
A benchmark Super Tuscan, Tignanello has been at the forefront of Italy’s modern wine movement since the 1970s. The 2014 vintage, from a cooler and more challenging year, shows the estate’s skill in crafting balance, depth, and elegance even when conditions were less than ideal. (Educational note: Tignanello was one of the first wines to break Chianti Classico tradition by blending Sangiovese with international varieties and aging in small French oak barrels.)
Aromas & Flavors
Blackberries, cherries, and currants form the core, wrapped in notes of violet, spice, and tobacco. Subtle cedar and cocoa tones from oak integration add depth without overpowering the fruit.
Mouthfeel
Medium to full-bodied, silky in texture with medium-plus tannins that frame the fruit beautifully. Balanced acidity keeps the wine fresh, while the finish lingers with spice and dark fruit.
Food Pairings
Excellent with bistecca alla Fiorentina, lamb chops, or wild boar ragu. Also pairs with aged pecorino or truffle-infused pasta.
Verdict
A Super Tuscan you simply cannot miss. The 2014 Tignanello is elegant, balanced, and layered — proof that even in a cooler vintage, Antinori delivers sophistication and finesse. 🍷

01' Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay. Color- Light golden. By looking at it, I would've never guessed it's 16 years old. BIG Nose...Green apple, floral. Palate...stone fruits, melon, peach & pineapple. A slight bit of creamy notes on the front & mid palate. A light backbone of acidity. Stone fruits minerality & soft pineapple carry through to a nice finish. Drinking at it peak now. @Ron R Thank you for this simply amazing bottle. Can't wait to tip a glass with you soon. Cheers to you and Anne-Marie! — 9 years ago
Saturday night...time for steak and claret as my buddy Gary Westby says. In this scenario, I envisioned the wine being equal or even better than my steak. Not to toot my horn but most everyone that's had my steak simply says meaningfully that it is the best they've had. Myself, I've only had one better the Ribcap at Bourbon Steak in SF; which sadly closed as the hotel took back the space they were in. Hopefully, soon to reopen again elsewhere in SF. However, back to the Pichon Baron. I can't say I loved it. I wanted to love it as it is one of my favorite properties in Pauillac. The wine isn't bad but it just never shined. Maybe, it's just not a good moment in it's evolution to open. It's soft, elegant but missing the beauty, flavors and complexity I've come to expect. The fruits are dry blackberry, dark cherries, black raspberries, a touch of juicy strawberries and black plum skin. Dark dry powdery minerals, saddlewood, lead pencil savings, underbrush, dry dark earth, dry pebbles. There is not much on the mid palate, it finishes a little flat and the fruits never really shined. Surprising for such a warm vintage. Hoping it improves over the years as I've got 5 more. Unusual that the wine really needed the steak more than the steak needed the wine. — 10 years ago

Proof that one does NOT have to spend a lot of money to acquire wines that will age gracefully into a beautifully mature wine 36 years of age. The usual pepper note is there that tells you are with a Cabernet Franc from #chinon, but the real beauty unfurls with the elegant spices of tobacco leaf and old leather, notes of forest floor, subtle mint, dried red currant and cassis fruits. Simply beautiful and I will now go buy a case of 2010 and say goodbye to it in storage for at least ten years. $20-25 retail for the recent vintages. #1979 #smashingpumpkins #raffault — 11 years ago
