Shiny Wine

Bruno Giacosa

Barbera d'Alba 2018

Really enjoyed this. Very polished and shiny, which Giacosa is sometimes criticized for but it was simply a killer wine. Wore its 15% abv extremely well. Didn’t read hot with lamb ragu. Really pretty red fruits, soft tannins, approachable acidity. A delicious wine at Barbalu. — 4 years ago

Painted Rock

Red Icon Estate Grown Malbec Blend 2010

2016 vintage. Great vintage weather wise in Okanagan Valley. Long, dry September makes great hang time.
Deep, dark, shiny, plum red in the glass.
Aromas of ripe raspberries, black fruit, milk chocolate and underbrush. Savoury, spicy flavours of blue and black fruit and milk chocolate (love the Merlot) with a silky texture and well ingrained tannins. This wine is 14.9 % but carries it well on the finish. 44% Merlot, 21% Cab Franc, 16% Petit Verdot, 12% Cab Sauv and 7% Malbec. If you get the chance , try Painted Rock 100% Cabernet Franc. It’s impressive.

The colour says it all
Pale yellow and shiny
Delicate, focused and intense
I reckon this is among the few top white wines in Italy. Benchmark scent of this wine is wisteria, i have detected it nearly in every vintage.
Last night i drank a Chassagne-Mintrachet Les Caillerets PC 2013 made by Ramonet and i am not complaining tonight eithier..it says it all

Okanagan Valley Pinot Noir 2018

2018 vintage. This is crushable wine. It is so easy to drink.
Bright, shiny cherry red in the glass. On the nose, Rainier Cherries, celery salt, carrot tops and green vegetal.
Get tasting this. Crisp acidity with bright cherries, strawberries and cranberries. It has a juiciness that is refreshing. It’s a steal at $25 CDN $$

Viña Progreso

Viognier 2019

This wine is electric! From the first waft on the nose to the splash on the palate, this wine is one of those I like to call “shiny.” It makes the insides of your nostrils tingle, the acid glands in the soft spots in the cheeks of your mouth sing, and the tips of your ears dance. It feels and smells irony like wet copper pennies and the texture is sheer as fine crystal. Bright fresh lemons yet some butterscotch warmth detected on the nose. High citric acid lights up the mouth with liquid lightening. Open for summer in your glass! — 6 years ago

Château Haut-Bergey

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1998

Somm David T
8.9

A glass of wine to finish up the night...good age, nice evolution and an extremely good value at $25. Recent direct Chateau purchase. While the 1998 Bordeaux vintage was panned by the critics as a whole on the Left Bank, Pessac-Leognan shined better than most on the Left Bank. It was Right Bank Saint Emilion that had the great year. This 98 Haut-Bergey is not quite the wine the 98 Haut-Bailly is. However, it is delicious for $25. Nose of; blackberries, dark cherries, cherries, strawberries leather, cedar, tobacco leaf, dry stones, vanilla, dark moist soils and fresh red florals. The body is medium to lean. Tannins are completely resolved. Ripe, lean, shining; blackberries, dark cherries, strawberries & cherries. Black moist earth, touch of funk, soft chewy leather, stones, crushed dry rock powder, cedar, tobacco leaf, steeped fruit tea, cola, dry underbrush, fresh & dry red florals, liquid violets with raining acidity. The finish has lean, bright mid red fruits, earth and dark spices. Nice wine for the $. While this will hold another 3-5 years, it's not going to continue to improve. So, drink em. Canale Tommaso

Vigna Rionda Barolo Nebbiolo 2011

2011 vintage. At Lima. Giovanni Rosso's first vintage of the classic cru, Vigna Rionda. Medium ruby - lovely shiny wine. On the nose, closed at first - due to its youth - but with air, spectacular. Minty herb, liquorice, sour black cherry, smoke, violets and tar. Very complex. On the palate, silky smooth - high tannin but ripe and luscious. Medium plus alcohol. Full concentration and high acidity. Deep flavours here. This is going to be a blockbuster of a wine with a long future. Spectacular Barolo. Drink 2023-2043 (although, to be fair, drinks really well now). — 9 years ago

Honeybunch Reserve Chenin Blanc 2019

More and more I will be getting out of my comfort zone. This is a single vineyard Chenin Blanc from South Africa, Stellenbosch. Hand-picked whole bunches, kept on the skins for 12 hours after harvest before gentle pressing. 12 month fermentation and maturation in 225L French oak barrels. The skin contact produces a beautiful medium gold color that's as shiny as a wedding band on a honeymoon. Indeed, honeysuckle is among the aromas that also include pear, peach, apricot, marmalade, and a twist of lime. Everything gets confirmed on the palate, with a touch of brioche. Medium plus bodied, dry (with a hint of residual sugar on the tongue), medium acidity. A great wine.

Paul Lato

Matinee Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir 2017

2017 Paul Lato Matinee Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir.
This wine punches so far above its price class. It’s Burgundien in style but never forgets it’s origin. It carries the best of both worlds.
It’s a bright, shiny ruby red in the glass. Aromas of sweet Bing cherries wth spicy raspberries and strawberries. Wow. Amazing flavours of cherries, roses, earthiness, coca and a touch of cola. Overriding everything is an elegance that dances on your tongue but doesn’t overwhelm. We had it with local organic chicken thighs with shio koji and daikon leaves. Amazing.
