Inferno showing deeper, richer, smokier tobacco notes. While Sassella showing the more tea like herbal, orange, amaro , chocolate notes — 9 years ago
Significsntly thinner and lighter than a Barolo but still identifiably a Nebbiolo - kirsch, spice box, some grittiness and perfume, tobacco, hints of mint and tannic oakiness. Wish those mint and green herbal notes were dialed up a bit. Not as complex or deep as some Nebbiolo. — 10 years ago

— 9 years ago

Just had our first dinner in Varenna and it was very good, local all the way and a bit different. Fried cheese balls, cocoa and saffron pasta with porcine mushrooms and grilled lake fish. Had some Lugano white made from Trebbiano which was very good, full bodied with good acid. Had this red as well, 2012. Very nice and light, great with lake fish. Of course finished off the night with an unnamed Grappa. — 11 years ago
Fruity and great with Italian spontinios — 11 years ago
This makes a very, very strong case for Valtellina. Primal and elegant, oxymoron be damned. The wild savoriness of the Northern Rhone with a side of Piedmont's pretty fruit. Maturity-wise, I'd be shocked if it has ever been better than this, but would also be pretty surprised if it gets any better than this. — 12 years ago

Love this '71. — 13 years ago
Not as intense as a Barolo; I would say more balanced. Great with earthy food. — 7 years ago
Too early but great potential — 7 years ago
Fresh & bright with cherry & blueberry and some wilted roses. On the palate juicy and light with fruity acidity and light tannins. There’s a mineral streak beneath and a touch of fresh herbs towards the finish. Delightful stuff. — 8 years ago
